Come to Southwest or not?

As far as the RLA and my advocacy of it goes, nearly everything I say is backed up with fact and case law. You don’t have to believe any of that in the same way that you don’t need to believe that the Earth more closely approximates a sphere than it does a flat disk.
But organized labor tends to have better results when they deal in the reality of what the courts have actually really said about the RLA rather than the myths that get passed around among pilots like the President can shut us down or the mediator can put us on ice forever or there’s no chance Congress will let an airline pilot union strike.
In the same way, rocket scientists tend to have better results when they deal with the real physics of orbital dynamics than if they were to attempt to launch astronauts into space based on the lore of flat-earthers.
But go ahead and listen to those parties who would have you believe that attempting to generate the credible threat of a legal strike is a pointless endeavor for all the fantastic reasons they perennially cite. They’ve got your back. You’ll see.
As I mentioned, he had previously run a SWA-focused hiring prep firm for several years. AFAIK, he coined the term “desperation hiring” that he said SWA specialized in. If you don’t like that, that’s fine. If that offends you, that’s your choice to be offended. But that was his assessment.
Have you run a SWA-centric hiring prep firm? I haven’t. But he has.
Having known the guy and having respect for him, I personally put a lot of stock in what he had to say. You don’t have to. You have every right to believe what you want.
He is a sharp guy, and while he (like another of our VSP guys) was too smart to do so, I always encouraged him to run for a union position.
Like you're experiencing now, he took amazing amounts of guff from the koolies over the years, when, ironically, he was almost 100% correct in his attempts to (unsuccessfully) save this pilot group from itself.

Despite constantly being poo-pooed by the in crowd, history has proven that he was almost entirely right and the poo-pooers were almost entirely wrong. Unfortunately, not enough people in our pilot group listened to him.
You are free, however, to be angry, hurt, or annoyed by his analysis of “desperation hiring” or my reporting of it. Rage away.
I honestly have no idea what you’re getting at here. How any of this become a left or right issue in your mind is baffling. Respectfully, wtf?
…to dissuade people from coming here, but even is our current contractual climate, we have to grow. I know the argument can be made that we can’t hold leverage if the company can grow but that is ridiculous. The company will keep growing abusing who is here to make it happen, we need people through the door even through the SAV. We need to show the company that as a pilot group WE are brining in pilots not them. How, I don’t know….
He explained that SWA specializes in what he called “desperation hiring.” IOW, SWA likes to hire people in some sort of situation where they are not the most desirable candidates at other airlines. That way, they feel a psychological debt of gratitude to SWA when hired by SWA. They’re more likely to be company people.
I think the last couple pages of this thread are an interesting psychological peek into ego and ego triggers. Pretty interesting stuff when viewed from that perspective.

Nope. I’d give his initials, but I believe it’s against the APC TOS to identify or otherwise dox individuals unless they are elected union officials. But I miss both who you’re referring to and the other guy. Both deserve to be inducted into the SWA Pilot Advocate Hall of Honor some day.
