We will see how many show up to class, but I suspect many of them haven't gotten on with anyone else considering the major slowdown in all hiring has moved the needle for all job seekers making it more competitive than when all you needed was 500 right seat hours in a CRJ.

OAL big 3 have ramped it up as well. We might get a few and then said few might go to OAL requiring more hiring etc.

Of course, people want to work here. I think it’s a great place to work. This wasn’t a self-hatred expression. It sounds like you ended with the same obvious conclusion that I did though.

it's almost like this is something else. Like a big eff U to the pilots because HQ workers got let go a yr ago. It seems since then QOL etc has gone down hill.

displacements started long before HQ was RIFd…

Was pretty upset about the vacancy numbers and projections today... EVEN MORE DISPLACEMENTS?!? I mean come on.

Does SWA REALLY want 1,000 FOs and Captains in BWI and MCO? Because it's sure looking like it's headed that way.

I was shocked to see PHX lose so many. I mean they zero out reserves consistently and offer POT and VDT like its going out of style.

Ah...my apologies then. I sometimes read things in the voice of Squidward.
After I replied last night I was trying to think of what I would do in the pool. I would definitely not retire my spot until I had to just hedging my bets. I suspect a lot of these folks won't ever show up on property not to mention some may have medical issues or red flags now.
Those that do have a story to tell later on about how they swam in the pool for two years. I think we have a group like that now already from 9/11, don't we?

I am also quite disappointed in the complete lack of forethought or empathy with these vacancies. Yeah, I get it. It's a business and flying is regionally seasonal. This is the ugly side of monthly vacancies, though. When nobody is feeding them via hiring, they tend to suck.

I've been getting the feeling that it's the secondary displacements that are causing the most angst. Any other part of our contract, once you're awarded something (a trip, a vacation week, etc) NOBODY can take it from you. But when you bid for a seat in a base, a displaced pilot can TAKE YOUR SEAT. That's a seniority privilege that exists nowhere else in the contract, the ability to simply take an award from another pilot. It makes me feel creepy, to be honest, that we codified in the contract that a single displacement can result in 2 or 3 or more secondary displacements instead of limiting the damage to just one displaced person. We don't do that anywhere else.
Imagine if you had your trip cancelled, if you could just look at the schedule and take someone else's trip and that person would then be involuntarily assigned whatever open trip came up. That's kind of how we do base displacements. Yes it's "seniority", but we did this to ourselves.

It sucks to be junior. Next.

You’d rather commute from your base out West to BWI or MCO just because your base is next on the planning hit list? Or would you rather go where you can hold that is best for your QOL?

Not sorry that I refuse to be planning’s ping pong ball to be thrown around when they feel like it. If I can’t stay where I’m at, then I won’t feel sorry bout booting someone else from the place id have an easier commute and better QOL.

I don’t think we should even have monthly vacancy bids when there’s no hiring. It would force them to plan ahead and quit using us as lawn furniture to be moved when they get bored.

And a group from post Sep 17, 2008, which swam for 2.5 years. Jake from ‘The Bachelor’ chose to not come here at his 2nd interview, alledgedly.

Way more to it than that. As the company has said “ Quality of life for the pilots is of little value to the company “
