For me (asked for an earlier class and got one) it meant the difference between a blank line or reserve, vacation bids, domicile bids, etc. Seniority by one number can be a game changer.

I went two classes early. It has made a huge difference over my short career here. Hiring has stopped and started about 5 times and more than once I have barely landed in a good spot due to that decision to go early.
At the same time, I am a big advocate of work/life balance, but this is probably the one time I would say go to work vs taking that trip.

Great, sound advice. I will definitely take the first class if fortunate enough to be offered the position.

Just curious of when new hires can expect training.

I moved up one and bypassed the chance to move up another (bought my mom nonrefundable tix to watch the kids so wife could go to the first few days of indoc). I’d be 3 more senior in base if I’d done it…so far it hasn’t mattered. With more DEN displacements coming in the Spring…it might though as I’m right in the danger zone.

Inside or outside, smoking or non smoking are choices. For class dates, first available. Few jobs ago, I upgraded, and was a captain for years (before I got downgraded and furloughed). Guys hired in the class 2 weeks after me never upgraded. I was offered that class, because the equipment was better, but took the first...

I was offered a class within days of getting the offer at WN. I turned it down because my company was offering N automatic return to your current seniority number if you gavetwo weeks notice. Me being the conservative guy that I am, gave the two weeks notice. It cost me six months in upgrade - tens of thousands of dollars.

Take the first class you can get

I agree but latest from planning has -35/-50 by March. Hoping the new base takes care of it with people leaving voluntarily.

Have they indicated when they will announce the new base?

Seems like March is an increasingly popular month for things happening. I’d expect an announcement this month. Or not.
