I’ve seen the trade requests for people to pick up the inter-island stuff so they can do day trips, etc. If the company is thinking anything west like Tahiti, etc…gonna need a base out there.

Just here for my once monthly reminder that any new base that opens draws from existing bases, reducing seniority and open time flying.

I get that rumors are fun, but absent some huge unforecast growth in domestic capacity, which at this point would be financial suicide, new bases don't help anyone except the few crew that live close.

I will come back here and eat crow if there is some game changing announcement about exciting new flying to places we don't already go, but absent that, we are just becoming an airline that has more smaller bases to save on overnight costs. Given the whole regional chief pilot thing (lowers expensive staffing headcount at physical bases), it looks like that's the way it's headed.

Yep, not good. Look what SkyWest does.

They could cut about 30 VP positions if they’re worrying about crew hotel costs.

sad but true. We want to keep flying in and out of Harlingen rather than use that aircraft for something like Central/South America. Until we get more planes slated for growth crew bases simply dilute the pool and make all but those except those living in the new base lines suck a little more.

SAN is heating up more as Alaska just announced a new base their, at the expense of LAX and SFO.

SAN is the last place that needs additional traffic or 'focus'.

They really need a 2nd runway. It's getting bad in SAN.

They should have extended 13/31 instead of closing it.

During the RIF? We had more VP's than any other airline and likely still do. If they think hurting pilot QOL is the answer to their financial problems....We (collectively) have a crap load of sick time in our banks that says otherwise.
