What Do The AIRTRAN Folks think of SL10
#51
And AT certainly couldn't duplicate the SWA system. They're getting as much out of this deal as we are.
Maybe they should have let SL9 go to a vote? Ever think of that? There were no threats of seperate operations under that SL.
I think after the AT MEC's act over SL9, SWA management changed their tack and realized that no amount of money or guaranteed Capt seats was going to convince their MEC not to go to arbitration.
SL10 did not occur in a vacuume, there was a process that brought us here.

No one disputes what SWA has. It is not SWA captains that are losing their seats to AT F/Os. Those 150 jets are not some insubstantial number, that is real growth for Southwest, growth that would not have come without the deal.
Certainly the top slots should go to Southwest. But the rest of the list should be ratioed in so that Air Tran captains stay captain. This was not some yard sale, where SWA was picking up the pieces, ala ATA. This was a viable airline with good routes and a valuable hub. The AT guys deserve their share of the pie. The last two "deals" only showed that SWAPA was getting all of the dessert.
The other side of the coin also is that growth had flattened out at SWA. F/Os were looking at a very long time to upgrade since the days of 10% growth had passed. If oil had gone back to 120 to 140 per barrel there would have been cutbacks, along with every other airline. This deal gives those SWA F/Os an accelerated chance to upgrade, which is fine, except that it is at the expense of AT pilots that are already captains.

And what you hear from the TSquare is, "look at the big check the DAL gave us to not fight with NW."
Is there a big difference between having your seniority bought out by a check or by a paycheck?
Ohh, sorry, I forgot, you're a frickin genius.

We didn't fight the arbitration because that was the way the process agreement spelled it out.

A senior widebody Captain with only a few years left probably can't see the harm that would come to an older list when a bunch of young guys are put in front of him. This proposal gains me 6% seniority now and have me retire at exactly the same seniority as I would have without this merger (4%). If you compare similar points on the seniority list our guys work less days and earn quite a bit more, so any loss of seniority should certainly not affect their QOL too much. As for the assertion that we (the majority of us anyways) feel superior to FL pilots, Bullsh!t!! We do have a vastly superior contract though. If you guys get your contract restored to its former glory we wont have a problem keeping ours.

8 months after the merger was announced, we had a seniority list.
Less than 12 months after the merger was announced, we were wearing the same uniforms.
20 months after the merger was announced, DAL and NWA pilots were flying together, bidding each others bases and aircraft.
Your (second) merger was announced last year this time....

But, when I ask you to confirm what you wrote, you back away and say you are only repeating what you read on the internet. Nice.
