SWA to open ATL Base
#1
Southwest will open up ATL as a pilot base starting with around 200 pilots in August 2013. It'll remain small until the majority of the pilots have transitioned and until more 737's have transitioned. The 717 ATL base will remain until those aircrafts have transitioned to Delta.

Since it is opening this summer it will only be available to AT guys who have completed training and are on the SWA side of the partition when the vacancy bid closes. So it will initially be staffed with SWA hired Captains and a mix of SWA hired and former AT pilots on the FO side. Former AT pilots will not be able to bid on SWA Captain seats until 1 Jan 2015.

ALL AirTran 737 Cptns. are having their seat "taken" for SWA upgrades as the airplanes get converted and go over to that side of the partition. As V169 said, the ATL SWA base is only available SWA pilots and AirTran pilots that have completed SWA transition training (downgrading if you're an AAI 737 Cptn).

Dear Whack Master,
Gee what would I want, a Captain seat at "Super Regional" that you hated?
Or a pay raise and getting a spot at Southwest, the only major airline that has not gone bankrupt?
Happy New Year.
PS If it is such a bad deal why don't you go to Delta and fly for a "real" airline?
