I would say that prep is a good thing, and honesty is the best policy.

One more dumb question to quench my curiosity... Im under the impression that the interview pass rate for SWA is rather low, seems like I have 25% stuck in my head. Anyone have more concrete info on that? Are there quotas, or would they potentially hire everyone who interviewed provided they passed the interview?

You will read and hear about some getting the call with and without it. But if SWA is your number 1 goal and you can afford it, the type will only help out in the long run and the $8k will be long forgotten if you get your career job. Good luck in Denver, you'll probably find that the 2 week type course is tougher than SWA new hire training.

Thank you for the info!
I know it will not put me ahead of anyone else once in the interview. From there it is about your personality fit with SWA. But if it helps me get noticed for selection of an interview, that is what I'm willing to do.

I get some strange looks from fellow crew members when I pull out flash cards (for the type) while riding the crew van...haha! Juggling work and studying...but the wife understands it is only until the end of June.

They all say that once you're in the interview it's your job to lose, but from from what I've seen CJO offers are about 75%

I have the type and 2500+ hrs PIC in the 737 and have been applying for 3 years and haven't heard anything. Same with others at my company. So I don't think the type will guarantee anyone an interview.

You must be purely civilian then.

As facetious as I am sure Whack is trying to be, he does have a point. The civilians in my class were all Check Airman/management pilot/super high hours types. I think as time goes on, you will see guys in a more normal demographic getting the call. The pool is only so deep. Personally, I look forward to it. Having an evenish amount of civ/mil guys is a good thing as long as I can sit next to them and not want to choke them out.

To answer a question above, I think the days of 25 percent job offers are long behind us. I think it is closer to 60 percent or so if not 75. I got hired. That is saying something. I think out of the 6 that I interviewed with, 5 were hired. While that doesn't jibe with what they told us on the first day of class (they told us about a 33 percent pass rate), I think it is a little closer to reality these days.

Thanks e6bpilot. The guy I heard the 25% from said that very few get hired on their first try, but if called to interview again it was much higher. I was hoping that wasn't the case because as competitive as it is now, you'd think most would get the job. I know that SWA is more interested in a cultural fit, and there will always be guys who aren't and won't get the job. Glad to hear that there aren't quotas to only hire a certain number of folks each decision board.
I'm hoping to get the call soon, and preparing now for that day!

Exactly! The only guy from my company that eventually got hired at WN was former F-18 driver. Real low hrs as one would expect. Decent guy and he could check that box.
