Some good points for sure, Zap. All I'm saying is that retirement numbers are one of the only things that are certain in this industry (then age 65 came along), and with SWA having 8,000 pilots plus and the newly combined legacies having 10-12,000 now, the hiring numbers have to be HUGE to facilitate upgrades. Upgrades are going to mostly be a product of retirements and the legacies have a far greater percentage of retirements coming up than we do.
Plus, those big retirement numbers will provide some level of furlough protection for new hires at the legacies. To each his own, but I think someone would be crazy to pick SWA when they could go to DLA.
As for SWA growth? Yes, we do have an enormous positive in having an incredible amount of potential feed, but you'll have to forgive me if I'm less than sold on Latin American growth having seen the dysfunction at this airline and the hesitancy to even wipe one's own a$$ before having 15% ROIC.

They're telling newhires now 15 years plus and that you'll be in OAK or LAS for years. Maybe they're right. I've been in this business long enough to know that extreme pessimism is equally as unlikely as absurd optimism.

Someone told me once, acquire a QOL and not necessarily the left seat because QOL doesn't always come with the left seat. Everyone else can have Delta and their wide bodies, I'd just like to feel the LUV.

132.84 12 years+, which is the best domestic FO pay in the industry.
I hear Delta and American are hiring. If you need to chase the upgrade knock yourself out. I hear a lot of promises from the other airlines/air lines, but everyone I know that has been hired since 1999 is still an FO. This business is a crap shoot, I'm able to sleep well at night here.

It's 9 years right now, what info do you have that says it to be longer? I'm willing to bet that we're at the beginning of a hiring spree that takes it down to 7ish years in the very near future.
And even it it doesn't, we have quite a few 10 plus year FOs here that make more than captains at many of our counterparts.
Like someone else said, Delta and American are hiring. You could give them a shot. I was on an AA jumpseat last month, the FO was just tickled pink, having just gotten off reserve on the -800 after 14 years.

If what you are saying were true, Wack would be sniffing the left seat, I doubt he's smelling what you're cooking.

BS, if it's even close to that, it's due to front loading captain seats to ensure as many upgrade as possible before the rest of the trannies transition over.
