What about the days off? Five on, two off?

How about indoc? AA does five on, two off, for two weeks. I think it's always a Wednesday start. What's SW do?

Data is 8 yrs old, but I recall first two weekends off, then six on, one off till done. Of course, I was a lousy student...... YMMV.

Just assume you'll work during the week and have weekends off until sims start. Then you might get one day off during your sim weeks.
Indoc and training all run together in the same building and classroom-there's no separation like the other airlines.

Default Southwest Hiring Info 2016

Hired in 2014 and we definitely worked at least one Saturday, and it was July 4th. I think it's during systems week. The rest of the weekends other than sims we had off.
As mentioned above, indoc and everything else is seamless. No break.
The instructors will keep you there the entire class period even if it means taking more breaks. It drove our class insane. I was able to leave early one time for an appointment, but it took an act of congress and they made a huge deal out of it.
Bring a car if you can. Dallas isn't a real pedestrian friendly city. You will be glad you have it.

SWA starts on a Wednesday as well. You'll have the weekends off until sim starts but you will be required to do 4 mandatory observation flights on some of those weekend days. Most fly home on the weekends and do the observation on those flights.

It sure has been quiet on this site lately. Did everyone get an interview and hired?

Does anyone know what the 2-5 years currency really means?

I'm a current professional helicopter pilot (including instruments) and I have all the multi-engine turbine and total time requirements (2000 hrs Kingair 200/350, 1800 PIC). I even have a recent 737 type. So do I need 1 hour or 200 hours of ME turbine currency?

Thanks for your time!

Default Need letters?

I have had my app in for a year now. I have 9000+TT with over 3000TPIC I flew for American Eagle for 6 years. No military and only an Associates degree. Maybe I need more SWA letters. So any Nashville guys that want to write me a letter Ill take you up in the Stearman so you can say you have flown with me

SWA letters help quite a bit once you're invited to the interview, but have no bearing whatsoever in getting picked for an interview.

I'm no authority on the subject, but if I were to guess, I'd say your biggest hold up right now is probably the lack of 4-year degree with no 737 type. Do you have any management experience, like Chief Pilot, DO, Director of Safety, check airman?

My advice is just keep plugging away and update your times and availability regularly.

I interviewed very recently and the currency issue seems to be a moving target. You have to have flown some amount (preferably fixed wing) in the past 5 years. They ask for a full breakdown of hours in the last five years during the interview.

I honestly believe it's a whole package kind of deal. IMHO, if you have quality hours, experience, and have held leadership roles along the way, they may be more willing to overlook not having a ton of recent time.

Thanks. Yes I was a Chief pilot, but there was only 2 of us. I was a check airman for a fractional out of Nashville that is no longer in business and I am currently a standards Captain for a part 21 company now. Thanks for the info.
