What did they have to say to the pilots that don't meet the mins that were able to secure a slot?

Tomorrow starts a newhire class in which they're changing something about how class will be taught. This particular question was one of the last asked at the end of the day, so I can't quite remember what those details were.
But with that said, Rocky mentioned that if this new training structure goes well without extra sim time needed and what not, then the 500hr PIC min will be reevaluated.
They completely realize that they need to be competitive in recruitment which means lowering their mins. The 737 type req was the first in dropping their mins. They want to continue to do so, but keep up with their quality hires along the way.
I know that's all vague, but that's what I remember.

It's still a crapshoot with pilot credentials. The tour was great, and they were very welcoming. The one on one's were disappointing. Not just my opinion, but others that i spoke with agreed. Very little helpful info was given and very little time was really spent with the one on one's. I heard one person was told he should become a director of ops to make himself more competitive (that's kind of an odd suggestion, and not very helpful). Others were told to get the 737 type. In all, I don't think you were better off attending versus not. Time will tell though.

The issue, in my opinion, is that it is difficult to distinguish ourselves from one another. Many backgrounds are fairly similar (hence the crapshoot). Also, I noticed that many of the "one on one" Southwest pilots seemed out of touch with the realities of life outside of Southwest and the other big 3 which means its hard for them to relate to some of the significant highlights and challenges that many of us have undertaken. Probably because they have been with Southwest for a while, and they have no reason to stay current with the industry as a whole.

Other highlights. Expect to put in some long hours when you are at work (that was mentioned). AQP for recurrents, but not initials. And keep flying and be safe.

I don't think these airlines have been able to figure out the best way to find ways to properly distinguish between candidates. Until then, its luck of the draw, in my opinon.

Can you explain this? The "highlights and challenges that many of us have undertaken" part specifically.

.
Interesting point of view. I didn't get that feeling at all. I thought the one on one was great. I was told that for the most part, everybody is qualified and they are not comparing you to anybody else, they were trying to get a feel for your personality and if you would be a good fit. If all of all exp and quals were good, you should expect a call within a few weeks. It was not rushed by any means. Could have stayed there longer if had something else to say, but both of us ran out of words so to speak so I got up.

It really depended on who you were matched with from my observation.
