If you want to possibly get canned for not making your show times it is. When you get senior enough to hold long call it won't be an issue though. All that said, most of your days on RSV you will be flying so if you have to get hotels in DTW it shouldn't be too often.

That's pushing it. Call out time is 3 hrs from the time you answer your phone to the time you're ready to push. In 3 years I've only been called once and asked "Can you get to the airplane as quick as I can?" The rest of the time they've been assigning me a trip 12+ hrs out. You'll have a good idea if you'll get a trip of not based on the reserve list and open time trips. You can do it no problem if you get Long Call.

I wouldn’t say that’s totally accurate about being used. It’s dependant on which call time mostly. Some reserve in some bases gets used less than half the days on average.

And where is this illusive 12+ hour call out? That has not been my experience at all on reserve. Either not used at all, or called right at or close to RAP start for assignments.

I almost always knew the night before if I had an assignment. That being said, 3 hours away is too far if you value your job, once you can get long call it won’t be an issue.

On long call. Otherwise it’s 3 hours to push once you get the phone call.

Usually when you tell them you need the full 3hrs they move to the next guy. If you watch Flica you'll see the trip pop up and cross check it with the res list. You can tell who's getting called. "Usually!" Be smart and drive 1hr closer to DTW and chill @ Starbucks! Plus with DTW most of the flights go out in the morning. After noon the trips thin out and they can't really use you. We use to have R13. Plus 3 and I don't have to be there till 1600!! The day is GONE! For the record R3 SUCKS!

If I was “the next guy”. I’d tell them they are calling me out of order

I've had them call me out on an R19. Need you at the airport asap...
I'll be there in 3 hours... I could physically make it to the airport in 2:30 and ready to depart at 3 hours..

30 minutes later as I'm in the car driving up to the airport I get another call from scheduling. I'm released until R19 tomorrow. They were able to get someone in to fly the trip they needed me ASAP.
