We were all new at one point, that’s a given. BUT, many of us cut our teeth at the regionals or other places for many many years before even getting a shot at flying for a major. That experience is invaluable. It’s not tribal knowledge, or some other blather, it’s just experience. Doing your experience building at a major, instead of at a regional is something many of us Captains thought we left behind when we vacated our Captain jobs at the regionals. Teaching 20-something’s the ins and outs of the 121 world is different when you’re flying a 50-seater to Killeen or Knoxville vs. a A321 with 200+ pax 5 FAs to San Jose Costa Rica…. And, many of us are just getting fatigued of it.
So, I’m with Cinco…. I’ll set the brake and take a breath and let the other guy catch up. |

Its the attitude I have a problem with. Setting the brake to catch a breath and letting everyone catch up is a far different attitude than staring at someone or saying "do your job". |

This is a career, not flight school. Captains are not flight instructors. You’re 100% right a CA has the right, the responsibility, to look at the FO and tell them to “do your job” if they aren’t doing your job. Hurt feeling? Who cares. FOs have No Fly Lists, have at it. It’s very simple, show up prepared, done. |

Exactly zero participation trophies. I am probably a lot older than you are assuming. I was given nothing in life and worked hard for everything....including my aviation career. If you'd like to have a conversation about what I've put into this, I am happy to do that with you. I may be relatively new the 121 world but I am not new at life. Not once did I claim that captains should be flight instructors, or hand holders. I expect everyone to do their job...I'm just not a d*ck about it. This attitude is the reason FOs have no fly lists. In my experience, people like that are disgruntled for other reasons....Legacy not calling? If you have a problem with the experience level your airline is hiring, move on.....simple as that.

Haha..I was wondering when the regional pilot would drop the "legacy not calling" line. You know what the best part is? When I have to set the parking brake because you cant find the ramp frequency, my hourly rate keeps ticking. Once you get your time and apply to a legacy, just know the CAs at those legacy airlines wont hold your hand either, and dont think for a second a DAL or AAL CA gives two craps about how you feel if you keep messing up.

Definitely go to Delta.

I don't believe in "participation trophies" and and I don't do well with lazy anything. I love how you categorize a "regional pilot". Like a regional pilot is soooooooo much lower than you. Very telling. I may end up a Spirit, actually. It's on my short list for a number of reasons.....perhaps you'll get the honor of being my first "no fly". Attitude is everything in life, and yours...is awful.

Since it’s becoming pretty clear based on your numerous responses in the last 48 hours that you are in fact one of these FOs (despite telling us over and over how it’s not you), how would YOU handle yourself in this situation? Give us a breakdown of the conversation you’d have and how we can make you feel happy and safe enough to want to fly with us again.
Just so I have it straight for my Spirit interview....when they ask "what makes a good captain?", the answer is " someone who stares at their FO until they figure out what they missed, or tells them to "do their job"". Do I have that right? |

I am certainly not arrogant enough to claim to be above screwing something up. I am perfectly capable of messing up. I admit it and learn from it if it happens. Let me guess....that doesn't ever happen with you? I think my view from the start has been that there is no reason to be a d*ck in the cockpit. I've also conceded that there is a huge difference in someone with less experience and someone who is just lazy. Judging by the attitude, I doubt there is anything you could do to make me want to fly with you. I greatly appreciate a captain who is knowledgeable and interested in making me a better pilot. I do not appreciate someone who feels they are above another pilot, or demeaning.

I know it's a small percentage of people who act like this, but it bothers me. If they act like this on here, I am positive they act like it on the flight deck and in my opinion, there is no room for ego and attitude in the cockpit. |

I cant even blame new guys for being new, not their fault. Hell, the company is now having new hires do their type oral after their sims are completed, because the regulations require 50 hours multi to take the ATP oral, and we are hiring guys with less than 50 hours multi, so they need the sim time to count towards their 50 hours total multi time.

It’s going to be ok, Russy. Just because you’re charmin soft now, doesn’t mean we won’t nurture you and love you and build you up the way you deserve. You may think we’re “A-holes” but I think you’re A-mazing! This is your world, we’re all just living in it! Get out there and seize the day, champ! |

If it’s as bad as you (I don’t mean you personally) make it sound, than yes...just quit. Grinding away “flying jets and getting paid” is still worlds better than the alternative. Maybe be thankful for having a job at all...or that your job, well...is flying jets.

Don’t get me wrong, I understand every job has its negatives and some companies are better than others to work for. But, how about a little perspective here folks? You’re flying jets and getting paid. Maybe it’s not glamorous or exactly where you want to be at the moment...but still one of the coolest jobs out there.…….. If being a regional airline pilot is so bad then leave and find something else that makes you happy. No one is stuck. I appreciate the factual information I get here...but the whining and non-stop badmouthing is terrible.

Do you have Amazon? They sell mirrors really cheap. I’d go buy one if I were you. Me personally, I’m happy as a clam. Great job. Great pilots to fly with. Happy family. the fact you think someone is “disgruntled” just because they call you on your BS shows just how entitled and deluded you really are. the world really does revolve around you doesnt it?? you can have the last word, russy. |
DFW base

Looks like Spirit is ramping up DFW, despite the rumors it is shrinking or closing! Note: the first time I clicked on the link it let me read the whole article, each subsequent time after it turned into a paywall. 🤷♂️ |
Alright guys. It's going too far. I don't know you, and you don't know me. I should not have assumed you were all bad pilots to fly with. It's easy to get sucked into the anonymous internet crap and start arguing with people that you don't know. So, for that, I apologize. I am one of the first people to admit how fortunate I am to have caught the current industry wave, and I know many (most?) of you had to put up with a lot more BS than I did to get where you are. I always have and will always respect the experience that you guys have, and admittedly, I have not seen a lot of the things that probably get old over time. I am man enough to admit when I am wrong, and I shouldn't have started crap.

SPIRIT is a fantastic place to work with great people and I have never flown with anybody yet that I would not gladly go fly with again tomorrow people are going to bust your balls on the Internet because it’s a fun thing to do when you get bored. Truthfully, there’s not anything that anyone here wouldn’t do for you to help you be successful. |
