Jr bases at Spirit

I was curious what the JR base was for spirit and how long it would take for a person to get to LAS?

Rough gouge on F/O time frame. :D
ACY (ASAP)
FLL (While in ground School)
LAS (First Month on line)
DTW (First or Second Month on Line)
ORD (Second to third Month)
DFW (Four to Six Months)

It's all BS till it's announced but by Senior FLL Capt buddy claims Nov will the the month for MCO crew base announcement. ;) Office folks at Miramar are telling him this. I guess all that flying was to be done out of FLL but we have zero gate space so it was moved to MCO. Either way lets see what happens in Nov. The mass migrations hopefully happens soon. Fingers crossed!!

I believe all of those new routes are currently being flown out of FLL. These are all new routes just to a different station because of the tourism market there.

king10pin02 08-19-2018 03:09 PM

the new mco-south routes start 6-9 months before the runway closure in fll, this is pure mouse house routes

As in it will be included in the November vacancy bid or they will announce the base is coming in November and will be awarded in the January bid?

Current junior bases are ACY and DTW. ORD and DFW can be had within a couple of months, with LAS and FLL being a little more senior.

What about the MYR base, you sure had a bunch of planes overnighting there last week? Or is that just a summer thing?

Right now FLL is the most senior for new hires

summer thing. we have something like 15 (maybe 18?) destinations out of MYR in the summertime.

and only like 90% of them are in ohio

☝️this exactly. They are simply shifting exsisting flying to MCO in order to ease the blow of the take down of the north rwy in FLL.

I don't think they are canceling those FLL flights while the runway is closed. So it's not exactly shifting of flying around.

per the fll airport only domestic flying will be cut, all airlines required to reduce domestic departures/arrivals by 25%

IWalkJun12 08-20-2018 12:25 PM

I don't think this has anything to do with FLL. MCO is the busiest/most pax in the state if FL.

After another record-setting year, Orlando International Airport now is the busiest airport in the state of Florida, with 44.6 million total passengers passing through in 2017.

Orlando International, which is among the 15 busiest airports in the U.S., surpassed Miami International Airport to claim the top spot in Florida.

Scary part, there's much more room to grow. FLL/MIA is basically at capacity. There's no more land. MCO keeps getting bigger. Not to mention passengers from roughly 90 minutes around MCO, use MCO as their "hometown" airport.

The closer you get to Orlando, the harder the mouse bites.

Jr. Base

This thread is a bit stale. Can someone comment on current seniority v base bids? Maybe a list of current bases and months/years to get to each?

Thanks in advance!

It seems like you should have your immediate choice of ACY, DTW, FLL, or ORD

MCDUmanipulator 11-20-2019 04:13 AM

Dfw is currently about 6 months from DOH. LAS is around 5

Wow. So FLL can be held right away? That’s awesome. Thanks for the quick response.

Spirit Expansion

Excuse the new guy questions but, so far everyone has provided thoughtful and clear responses, so thank you for that.

New question: in my research so far, it appears that Spirit is purchasing approximately 50(+-)new aircraft.

Is that still accurate?

If so, is this an expansion of the fleet or replacement aircraft?

My simple math says, and it’s a generic SWAG, an aircraft needs about 10-16 pilots per to operate. Is Spirit expanding that big now?

Guess what I’m getting at is, sounds like a great time to get onboard and ride the seniority wave......or, is the future not as bright as it appears to me?

Thanks for entertaining my ignorant questions. Trying to figure it all out.

We will have 145 by the end of this year, and 193 by the end of 2021. There’s an order for 100 that will run 2021-2027 with an option of 50. I might be a year or 2 off with those numbers. I believe these are all growth with no replacement. My suggestion is to apply, try to get an interview and see if this place is right for you.

I'll add that we don't have enough aircraft coming for 2020 and 2021 to hit the growth percentage they want. They are looking for another 24 or so airframes.

Good point, I forgot to mention that.

Anyone care to share how long it’s looking to go from DOH to holding MCO?

Base on the latest vacancy. You’ll probably get it by the time you finish training

I started end of August. November - ACY, December - ORD, January - MCO

Thank you for the quick and thoughtful reply. All good news.

I applied a few weeks ago and have a phone interview in a couple days. Thanks for the encouragement.

Lots of shifting going on, but can anyone provide information on junior bases that new hires could expect within the first several months?

dualinput 05-21-2022 12:41 PM

FLL, MCO, or LAS

LAS Vegas is only junior for like 3 weeks and then they all transfer out.

Can we get some class drops as it relates to bases?

There is going to be a huge displacement this fall most likely. Unless you want to be in FLL or MCO you could end up anywhere and most likely will be displaced to Florida in the bid.

Yeah FLL/LAS/MCO. Pretty much standard around here lately. That may and most likely all change once they fix the “glitch”.

You'll get LAS or FLL initially. Then any base other than DFW after that. MCO is taking about 3-4 months right now.
