Depending which day of the month you start training, you may find yourself bidding almost right away. If you luck out and get your choice great. If not, you will have a couple more opportunities to bid again before training is over.

Since it is a vacancy bid, it starts at the top of seniority list and moves down, and this can create secondary vacancies that were not part of the original bid.

First time around you and your classmates will get whatever is leftover as you are the last dogs at the bowl, but most bases are possible before training is over or shortly after.

“Punch-a-Hole” The Price is Right style.

The last day of ground school all the pupils lineup. You go up to a giant board and punch a random hole.

there are;

30 LAS
30 FLL/MIA
25 MCO
15 ATL
10 ORD
10 DTW
8 ACY
1 lucky DFW spot for the grand winner.

and please, Don’t forget to get your pets spayed and neutered!

Have the displacement previews provided any insight of certain bases becoming more senior or junior?

Might ATL end up junior because no one was there before? Or probably just still Florida..?

Rumor and conjecture welcome as well (of course…)

Crjdeuce 09-09-2022 03:41 PM

Are DTW and ORD still available to new hires?

Jr bases at Spirit

Most likely not, going forward. Unless there is massive attrition from those bases.

Off the top of my head, I got the following, but I’m sure there’s more:
LAS
SLC
RNO
DEN
PHX
ABQ
ORD
MCI
DFW
AUS
PIT
BUF
SYR
IAH
DTW
MSP
RDU
MCO
BNA
SAT

As to the post asking about LAS, I think it stays the same or maybe grows some from the combined current network, and stays a crew base. I think Joanna mentioned that as one of the west coast growth opportunities they are looking at post merger.

When you consider that many of those cities are boutique cities, one flight a day to JFK or maybe one flight a day to BOS, you’re left with a list only about 7 or 10 cities long. People in those cities don’t bother looking at JetBlue flights… they only go to JFK/BOS, and that leaves most of the country unreachable even though “JetBlue flies to Milwaukee!”

ABQ has one flight a day - to JFK. MCI has two flights a day - one each to BOS or JFK. Houston, San Antonio, Dallas… each have one flight to JFK and one flight to BOS.

Compare those cities to Dominican Republic - 29 flights a day to 6 different JetBlue hubs.

Except for MCO and LAS, JetBlue really doesn’t stray too far from salt water.

Last 3 classes went entirely LAS and FLL with the exception of one ACY. It appears by your second bid MCO is on the table, and maybe DTW, and ATL?

That blows... I was hoping for MCO right out the gate so I can wait there until DFW acquires me through attrition. lol

We bid every month. When I was in training, it took me 3 bids to get to DFW. By the time I got the award, I spent only 1 month “commuting” to FLL. I put that in quotes because your first month will be a relief line and you can trade your trips into MCO trips during that time. I would guess you’d be able to get to MCO within a couple months of finishing IOE.

You'll be contributing to the attrition soon enough living in DFW

I’m not sure this line of thinking is all that accurate. I know it will likely change a bit as we get closer to the actual bid, but as of the first mock what-if, there are zero involuntary displacements. As of today, I wouldn’t even get my voluntary displacement.

Speaking solely about DFW.

That is good to hear! Was this recently or before the "displacement bids" at DFW

Displacement bid is taking place in November and will take effect February of next year.

How long for a new hire to hold ORD these days?

Is it possible to get Atlanta out of training?

Always possible, but it looks like most junior has been here a few months. They are expanding IAH right now and need to add vacancies for ATL in the coming months to have a chance of seeing ATL out of training. Currently it appears NH will be LAS or FLL in their first bid and able to move after that. But in 2 months our bases will get a big shake up.

It is delayed until the post the results of the re-do for the vacancy that they screwed up. We have a bunch of geniuses at work.

Brought to you by the same company that hired a new flight standards guy who had to send out a redaction email because of all the errors he had in his first email, and was subsequently called out on his error.

Reserve Bidding

Any FLL FOs want to share the preferred reserve bid to work as little as possible. Specifically which order to bid R03, R07, R10, R19? Currently have “prefer off weekends” as the only other line item there.

Look at a previous bid award and see what people junior to you are bidding for and try to work the same days they are, on the same RAP. That way, you’ll have some human shields. I can’t speak for FLL, but it’s rare you sit at home as an FO on reserve here.

That’s a good idea. Thanks I’ll do that.

Just my experience in FLL, but this doesn't really work since we are allowed to trade reserve days with others. I've seen junior pilots below me with the same number of days left end up in a whole other bucket of available due to trading R days.

It's a crapshoot either way to be honest. Just bid your preferred days off and cross your fingers.

dualinput 10-10-2022 07:55 PM

I understand the question now. Be able to hold weekends off consistently (be a line holder that bids rsv). Bid the rap that has the least amount of departures with the least amount of sick calls. Early mornings will have more sick calls.

Based on the expected reduction bid anyone hired in the next few months is going to be awarded FLL, MCO, LAS, or IAH. Then who knows. Gotta wait for the dust to settle on November 30th.
I think JB will say that they will rebuild the affected bases but NK will still run the reduction.

It’d be great if the combined town hall they are putting on in a few weeks would provide some clarity on what JB plans to do with our bases; for planning purposes.

GrumpyCaptain 10-23-2022 08:09 AM

Plan on the empty promise of all bases staying open.

I would bet on this too. NK needing reductions in these bases will have little to do with the JBLU model and where they need reductions. Spirit is running like a leisure travel company, JBLU doesn’t.

The planets must have aligned again. I find myself agreeing with Cinco. The stated purpose of acquiring NK was to compete against the Big Four. I don’t see B6 giving up any bases. Well, ACY maybe…

Griffinthefool 10-24-2022 07:17 PM

How senior is Atlanta going? I know it's the newest base.
