Agree with all. ECIC is pay once, use forever. I’ve been twice. I personally would rather think I “wasted” money on it than wonder if it would’ve helped.

 

The prep companies are VERY useful for some airline interviews. The great value I got out of it was certain things to avoid at all costs, that I really wasn't aware of. I would probably still recommend them for Big-6 interviews, some of them have specific landmines built into the process. Stuff that doesn't necessarily make sense to me, but somebody in charge decided it was relevant.

 

I love that we have guys telling people not to seek self enrichment. We should always be trying to better ourselves. Whether it helps you get the job or not will be specific to the person but I certainly wouldn’t hurt anyone. I personally want to sit next to guys that prep like this is the biggest interview of their lives just like they would for any other airline, not a bunch of lazy asses that think spirit is going to be an easy bet and don’t think of themselves as “legacy material”.

Considering the poster who called it a scam, is the same person who has an avatar of his lanyard prototype he wanted to make for pilots to wear, going against the union direction during stalled negotiations.

You are correct everything isn't a scam but these folks hustle. It's 100% scam just like the fee based job fairs. Yup Seriously it's a scam/hustle! These jokers charge you to get "prepped" and after the interview call you to get the gouge and check if the gouge they have is current. 100% hustle! Better hope the questions don't change! 100% refund!! LOL UAL was smart and started asking the Lat/long of your home airport. They use control questions for good reason! Who's trying to beat the system?? Go learn what you need to know as a professional aviator and you'll get the job you deserve. Stop buying gouge!!

 

Pay for job fairs are scams.

Interview consulting is not a scam. EC did not teach gouge at all. Good interview skills aren’t necessarily instinctual in an HR world. It’s not a boys club hiring other pilots. Knowing how to act and what to say and how and when to say it are learned mostly either through experience of failing or through being taught. And when I say “what to say” I don’t mean it in a specific way but in a generic sense. If you’ve used an interview consultant you’d know that they don’t teach a gouge. A lot of it is just good common sense but it’s a confidence builder knowing you prepared and also informs you on hot button topics that we sling around in the cockpit but can get you in trouble in an HR interview. I’m not talking about obvious things but more subtle things you might say in passing but not even realize it, as well as general body language you put out.

I think of myself as a generally personable guy that interviews well but that’s my own biased opinion. It’s nice to have a second objective opinion.

 

Also consider aviationinterviews.com which provided very useful and up-to-date information, however I feel the face to face interview prep gave me a lot more confidence. I would compare it to going through the profile for a V1 cut on your couch opposed to the simulator during a checkride. I don't think it matters too much which one you choose however one is definitely geared towards United.
