Best advice I got was to apply immediately even if mins aren't met, update regularly, and then once mins are met make SURE the application is 100% squared away. Drop recommendations, get interview prep and resume review done, etc., as soon as you meet the mins. That way the first time they really take a good look at your application it's tight and they can also see that you've been applying for a while.
Maybe it's not good advice, but it sure as heck seemed to work for me. I applied to lots of places when I had zero recency even though I knew I didn't meet requirements. As soon as I had one year of 121 flying to update my recency I updated my resumes, got my friends to send in recommendations, and I got a couple interviews within a few months. I think that ought to work for most people especially if they meet various milestones like upgrading and building PIC time, getting ckamn or chief pilot quals, etc.

Minimum hour requirements are just a small piece of what is taken into consideration when selecting pilots to interview. Use your best judgement, having 2200TT won’t make you competitive against the guys with over 3000 but maybe you have a personality that fits our company better. Obviously people applying with a commercial and 1000TT is what they are trying to prevent. No two candidates are the same and there are ways to make yourself a more competitive candidate outside of your total time. At the end of the day they want someone who is going to fit in and can pass training. As soon as you are reasonably close to the Total Time requirements apply and update often, that’s all you need to do.

I applied a week ago 5200 TT 3000TPIC 121 PIC and 135 PIC. Received an email yesterday for a phone interview. When I applied I got the assessment instantly. I also had two internal RECS. No job fairs attended.

Also, I have about 10 LOR's from various non-Spirit folks who can attest to my work ethic, flying ability, teamwork, etc. Does this help for a Spirit app ?
Thank you

My internal recs were both from line captains. When I had my phone screen, they didn’t even see the internal recs. I was told the internal recs are helpful when you go in for the face to face.
