More like 2 years and three months. I like to round down to 2yrs because it's closer ;)

Are you assuming? Have you applied? And what makes you think spirit is any different?

Hiring at all airlines these days is all over the board. If you think you’re good enough for Spirit you’re good enough for the other carriers. If you think you’re good enough for spirit but not the others then we don’t want you. Sounds harsh but no one wants to be second fiddle or have a bunch of guys that think this place is good enough or not worth United pay because they don’t think they could’ve gotten hired at United.

Wasn't implying any of that. Spirit is a fine place that I'd be happy and lucky to work at. Was really just joking with the whole intergalactic time machine thing. Although I have heard of more people without degrees getting hired at Spirit then Delta Airlines, UA etc.

Since when does Spirit offer 15% DC to the 401k?

My point was that’s where it’s going to be if he’s career-minded.

Definitely career minded. I'd like to retire from my next airline. If I ended up receiving an offer from Spirit, I'd stay.

I have not applied yet. Just thinking about potential options. F9 is a consideration but it's hard to get unbiased direction as far as NK vs F9. I'll probably apply to both and see who bites.

F9 is the obvious choice if we are staying in CO I guess...unless there is a compelling reason to commute for Spirit. I'm open minded at this point.

NK and F9 both signed near industry trailing contracts and the differences are a rounding error over the course of your career. I applied to both and was going to the first one that offered. NK called first so here I am.

If NK offers the job I'd take it and still apply to F9. If F9 calls then take a hard look at making that switch. A ULCC job and living in Colorado isn't all that bad brother.

Good luck either way and don't ignore the 401(k) direct. Even at our poor rates it's adding up quick and will provide a nice retirement.

Get a degree and apply everywhere you're even remotely interested in working. Update the applications twice a month while you're getting your degree.

I may need to get the degree, but for now I'm going to try and see if anyone bites without it, and maybe save myself thousands of dollars.

I've heard some online schools offer experience credits, so that may be a possible route I'd take.

You’re stepping over a dollar to save a dime.

Many hired at Spirit do not have a 4 year degree. With the latest contract and pay rates, you'll do more than great here. The growth alone will be worth it and the (eventual) 15% DC will allow you to retire with a very large 401K balance.

I threw applications to the wind in spring 2018 never thinking anyone would call me until I had a resume. I was in total shock to receive the CJO less than two months later. A new hire buddy at Spirit (previous regional FO, zero 121 PIC) is already gone to fly the triangle-painted tails.

If you have any interest at all in working for an airline, apply. Then keep working on being a better candidate. But absolutely don't wait to apply.
