Reserves are flying a lot. I am able to get weekends off as a really junior reserve FO.

either early morning starts or late night starts. Not many trips start mid day. Very few day trips.

Sometime after sometime when the study’s been completed by the firm etc, but JM stumbled awkwardly about the MX hangar that’s not being built but might be built that is built that won’t be built but if it is built doesn’t mean it’s a crew base. Gotta wait for the study lol

When I want to make a little extra money, I bid a line. When I want to sit at home, I bid reserve. I bid reserve November and December and flew 6 days, total.

Can anyone speak to the trip mix, trip lengths, quality of lines, commute-ability at ORD vs DTW? Is one or the other growing or shrinking?

Also, are the percent of FOs on reserve the same in both locations?

I have been unable to find if this was addressed in the threads.

I’m not DTW or ORD based so I can’t give you give a breakdown of % trip length and commutability (mind the definition of commutability). Both bases seem to be growing steadily although ORD had some stagnation in the past. About 70% of the pilots hold a line on average. This number can grow to 75% during summer and shrink to 65% or even less at FL bases during slow months. System wide the company has been leaning more towards 4-day trips (post covid). Quality of lines and trips depends on your seniority and obviously on your definition of quality (credit, legs per day, red eyes, etc). In my personal opinion LAS has the worst trips due to the relative large amount of redeyes. The rest of the bases seem to cover a good portion of our whole domestic network one way or another.
