Yeah LAX makes sense but apparently it’s still too expensive and cheaper to overnight us. Just finished up training and that’s the vibe all the higher ups seemed to put out. Plus I’m just spitting out places most people would actually want to live

Y’all realize that when a new bad opens, base seniority stagnates and trip selections start to blow…minus living in XXX and a possible easier commute, it’s not all sunshine and rainbows. We had crews and planes stuck all over during the last melt down, they have said multiple bases could help recover the operation much easier. We all are looking at big stations with multiple departures, what if they went the opposite direction and opened a few small ****hole cities that we serve to help recovery efforts? I have no doubt soon something will be announced, just trying to figure out what they want vs we want. FWIW, Houston ( don’t live there/ don’t want to live there) is what I’m hearing

Goal is to have more bases and less 4 day trips. Much like frontier is doing.

Less 4 -Day trips and if/when BWI opens it’s going to be a commuter base… sounds like fun! /s

Yup. When some bases have 75% 4-day trips, that alone screws up my QOL much more than the fear of temporary stagnation from a base opening

Houston doesn’t make sense for recovery purposes. It’s odd how close all of our bases are to each other, so it wouldn’t surprise me, but I would think something more north or west would make more sense.

The guy in charge of AA routing specifically is quoted as saying PHX is kept for this reason, among others. It offers them a lot of flexibility when the **** hits the fan in the rest of the country and allows them to recover during the winter months. Granted there are lots of places out west that would allow that, even LAS. However I would argue there is a reason two of the biggest airlines have bases in PHX.

Calm down, folks. Even if the overall % of 4 day trips does come down, your still going to have TONS of 3/4 day trips here.

We aren’t Allegiant. Frontier (who went predominantly to 1-2 day trips during COVID) is slowly increasing 3/4 day trips again. They are also much smaller than us (at the moment) which makes 1-2 days a lot more manageable.

We will be almost 200 airplanes by the end of next year. When we take our last delivery we will be at 300. Im guessing by the time that happens we will be serving an additional 20-30 or more new markets. Well over 1,000+ flights a day.

You really think we will be doing 90% 1-2 day trips? We would need at minimum 8-10 more bases to MAAAAYBE even begin to scratch the surface of whether that’s even feasible. Relax.

If anything I couple see the software become a bit smarter. I mean I’ve done trips where I go to LAS, for example, and spend days 2 and 3 doing day trips to SEA and PDX.

You could have them created as day trips for LAS bidders and then your not sending other base crew out there to fly that. Things a long that line.

From someone who is based in LAX and lives here, your wallet will say the same
