Reason for LASCommuters to Fear New Day Trips
#11
From a commuter perspective:
I normally do one four day trip per week, commutable both ends. For LAS that normally means red eye, flip, flop (early flight back) to LAS (preferably without penalty lap). Pay 18 hrs, TAFB 70 hrs, include commute TAFH 80 hrs.
With day trips, if I get 3 in a row, early start and 6 hour credit, commute in day before. Same TAFH, same credit, extra cost $300/month for a crash pad.
Not something i would like better, but not the end of the world either…

thats what I do and like it way better. Sometimes Able to go duty for credit the entire bid period. 5 credit min duty period. West coast turns. Block 3 duty 5 credit 5. Usually I’ll mix in a few higher credit turns to bring credit up a bit though. 15-16 days off. Did an overnight last week for the first time in years. Unfortunately day trips are getting harder to hold at my seniority.

yeah. Or mountain bike in red rocks, swim/jet ski in mead and/or golf. Beats most of the cvg, dtw, cle, stl, or any other hot spot overnight. Just spend $400 for a real crash pad. Should be able to have your own room and a garage for toys. There’s a ton of fun in las and surrounding area.

We have always been heavy on 3-4 day trips, so it's nice to see some variety. For every one pilot on here complaining about in domicile turns (which is mainly Florida bases per the townhall), there are ten others living in base who will be all over them because their seniority previously could not hold them.
Anyway, just my two cents. I'm sure there a folks who live in base that will bid for the day trips while the commuters can continue to gobble up the 4 day trips. I wish G4 would build some efficient 3-4 day trips to make it easier for ppl to commute here. Hopefully NK does it right and at least tries to make both the day trips and the 4 day trips desirable.
