So here’s a question, let’s say NK gets this money. What will change them from liquidation in a few months anyway? Nothing changes, still hemorrhaging money yet everyone is acting like this will save the airline. It just prolongs the inevitable.

The real issue is that this is being evaluated on the political pros and cons leading up to the midterm elections and not on any measure of fiscal responsibility. From a business perspective, Spirit is a fiscal train wreck with an extremely small percentage of the market share. There’s really no legal argument such as national defense or protecting federal infrastructure to justify this. If they think that they can get political points out of this they will make every attempt. Nothing will change, this is just kicking the can down the road until after the elections. Just another example of politicians adding to the huge federal deficit for nothing more than potential political gain.

Trump doesn't have the unilateral power to lend Spirit any money. Congress must pass a bill and appropriate. Congress has given the executive limited authority to unilaterally invest in companies, but it has to pertain to defense-related matters - like the rare earth investment last year. Congressional Republicans won't go for any bailout. Trump was able to invest in Intel last year because Congress already had appropriated the money in 2022 or 2023 for that exact purpose.

The way I am looking at is
The liquidation is underway the Gov offers a few more cents on the dollar then what the owners would get liquidating. Then the Gov saddles NK with with the loan likely with a low/no interest rate. Why? because the assets will never cover the debt otherwise. this way NK lives on either on there own or is free to merge eca. What does the gov get out of this... Taxes, 10k+ people not collecting unemployment. And all the other glorious advantages that keeping NK alive.

Ideological is it right no. If NK pays it back it will be a poster child for intervention. Done right I could get past it. The reality is this is the country we live in. The last time the GOV bailed someone out i remember was SVB to the tune of 20 Billion. Mostly VC funds and Prince Henry, and Oprah. The FDIC paid 100% so no one lost any money. wasn't that nice. None of us want to live in a world where Prince Henry, Oprah and some VC firms had to go with out.

I can get behind it because at least the Gov is helping working people. I work at F9 it's good for us if NK gets knocked out. That said I don't want to see so many people out of a job. NK has some real high quality people Best of luck and I hope you all make it.
