Spirit of NKS
Anyone else come across captains that are actively trying to leave? I've talked to a couple that aren't even waiting to see if we get a decent contract. Am I missing something? I thought I'd at least wait to see what we get before I decide to leave. I do have apps out and everything up to date, but I haven't felt the urgency to leave right now.

Airlines hire until they furlough so if you are even thinking about leaving, the sooner the better. Also, a lot of CAs haven't been here all that long so easy come, easy go, they don't have much invested here. I certianly wouldn't question a CA for leaving but I wouldn't question anyone for staying. Every single person here has different priorities/motives. Dont let someonelse persuade you one way or another. I went through a stage where I felt like I was missing something when people asked me if I was trying to leave and I was caught offguard by the question, lol. Of course I married really well so I'd I never make DAL 787 CA pay I'll be aigghhtttttt haha. Seriously, don't worry about what other people do.

Just some thoughts, if you are in the group wondering if you should move on. Is the grass greener?
Nobody knows, except those that pull the trigger. I have had friends here approach me about their thoughts and considerations about "moving up" to American, Delta Air......................Lines, United, etc.
These are my thoughts:
Two doctors, same qualifications, same school, and graduated at the same time. One moves to New York, gets a job with a surgical clinic, and makes a ton of money. He works from 5am to 10pm, and has one day off a week.
The other moves back to the town where he grew up, opens a private practice. He makes a fraction of the money his colleague makes. He goes home every night, and enjoys his family.
Two TOTALLY different goals. Some feel the need to make it in the "big leagues" and some are very happy with their lives in the minors.
I am NOT saying I am happy with the current pay rates, but some of us like it here....
People will come and go. People will leave for the "Legacy" carriers. Its all about what that individual wants.
I remember around 2007, I was at a regional. I was commuting out of Atlanta, and Spirit had the D9 gate. My regional's main carrier had a gate directly across from it. I wanted to work here....
I spoke with the captain briefly about Spirit. He said it was a great place to work. He said he was leaving to go to United......
Yall remember, United's pay rates then????
HORRIBLE....
But, he said he always wanted to work for United Airlines....
Anybody remember what happened shortly after that?
United furloughed....AGAIN.......
My point is, do what you feel like YOU need to do...
Not what others think you should do, or what others are doing....
To each their own...
Cheers....

Recently I have flown with the #1 and #2 captains, in the same week, on JA's out of my base. The phone calls are making it to the top of the list in all seats and more than once from other bases. Does the name "Kiwi" ring a bell?
The retirement numbers alone at the legacies make me question why anyone younger than 40 would stay at NK and leave so much $$$$ on the table. I believe we will be lucky to see VX or Jetblue rates in this next contract. Anyone can do the math. Okay. Keep telling yourself it's all about the "quality of life".

I implore anyone senior to me to apply and go to the legacies! You're losing out on higher hourly pay rates, higher 401K contributions and the ability to fly widebodies!
Especially FLL CAs! Why are you still here, it's an easy commute to ATL/EWR/JFK!
