That's how long it takes to get released into self help by the national mediation board. Even longer for a larger airline.

In short, the company could sue the union for going on strike.

I assume you don't work in the industry and have no knowledge of the RLA. Delta airlines sued 49 pilots for a million dollars each just for emailing fellow pilots and asking them not to work overtime. American got their A___ handed to them by a judge because the union did not di enough to stop sickouts they did not advocate. I think the judgement was like 60 million dollars. If you choose a illegal job action your going to find its a very hostile world out there.

It looks like as of Jan 1 '11 it would have a 14% increase. Ouch!
Not too bad in the big scheme of things perhaps. Then the TA reads.....7% increase each Jan 1, THEREAFTER. That means beyond the contract life of 5 years. So if you take another 4 years to get a contract after the five..........Nine years and an increase of 63% at minimum.

Maybe that's not a deal breaker but is sure doesn't help things to have an open ended bump indefinately.

If they're going to do that why not impose some cost of living increase to "each year thereafter" also. Fair is fair. Don't the pilots deserve just a little protection to offset the insurance open ended costs?



150% thoughts

If you could resist picking up OT, you could get more lines, better lines, quicker upgrades, more chance of keeping your vacation intact due to proper crew staffing etc.

The thing there that is a bit out of control and could use some tweaking is that they can build a line to 90 hrs. So in effect they get their "Seasonal workers" flexability afterall. If they can take such liberties as having line time flex to that extent, make them accountable for it. Something like JB with OT after 78 hrs.

I think with a 72 hr line guarantee anything over 72 ought to be at OT, but that's my little pipe dream. However allowing them to build lines grossely over the 72 is not helpful to the pilot group.

So, let them have the 100%. How many will pick up for straight time? They can recall the rest of the furloughs. That's good. You senior guys will get better lines built from it too. Win, win!

I assure you, OT will continue to be picked up at Spirit, whether it pays 150%, 100% . . . or even 50%.

At least one ALPA carrier pays straight pay (100%) for overtime - it was picked up by the most senior of Captains while 25% of the First Officers were furloughed. Elder Captains @ Fed Ex who continue to work after their 'high 5' and 25 years effectively work @ 50% pay, given their pension and other retirement payments.

The poster in this thread most upset by the lack of 150% OT pay admits he picks up overtime without abandon while Spirit pilots are still furloughed.

Never underestimate the power of greed.

Commerce is driven by transportation. Whether that is a freeway, a railroad, or an airline flight. Commerce happens when transportation is available.

That's why the Railway Labor Act was instituted. If a few renegade groups shut down the ability of commerce to move, the entire country gets screwed. Talk about greed.

Maybe we should get rid of the NMB, then things would be just like they are over in Europe, where there is an airline strike every other week. By the way, how are the pilot groups doing over there? I know Lufthansa just gave up 95 seat flying. I know pay rates are less.

Jungle has a very unique political view (although he is a smart guy). Just be thankful that more people don't hold those views.

Actually I have a pretty good idea of how the system works, my point is that you have been conned into believing it takes four years to get to a strike status.
Anyone want to quote me that chapter and verse?
