Were we having a problem with Altitude Busts?

Flew with an instructor recently that told me the change was implemented due to an FAA directive on altitude awareness. So, maybe the altitude busts got the attention of the FAA as it pertains to all airlines, not just NK. There were, however, several altitude busts in June that were accepted into the ASAP program; these were apparently related to delayed/discretionary descents though.

To: Any NK pilot that want's a greater understanding of ALPA and how to be an effective member. An informal meeting will take place tomorrow - July 21st at 7:30P - at the Southport Raw Bar in FLL.
This was scheduled before I became aware of any recall effort and is NOT a recall organizational meeting.
If you want to learn how to be the dog instead of the tail, come over. Let's talk

The FAA should worry more on FATIGUE and changing the rest rules.

Corky,
Matt is a level headed ALPA kind of guy. Just trying to educate any part of a woefully under informed / misinformed pilot group that wants to learn; some of the basics of ALPA policies and procedures. Quite noble really.
Secondly, leave the Herb comments to me, I've been here long enough to be disgusted with Herb, AND know what I'm talking about. We only had to deal with ONE clown on the MEC back then, now there are six, plus a couple committee chairs, and even some committee members trying to cram into that little clown car. (Maybe that's why our airplanes are now painted like clown cars, but I digress).
Why don't you leave scheduling for a few hours, come on down, and join the discussion. Bring some of your kool-aid, and we'll see how it stacks up to the truth.

Quit being a tool. First, you probably never even met Herb. Maybe once or twice. So quit pretending you know anything about him or the past MEC. You weren't around. Everyone knows that. Second, you probably don't know Matt either, so why pass cynical judgement? Why don't you show up and maybe you might learn something beyond radical unionism?

I don't know dude, I could see how it didn't come across as a joke.
I think it's great that MN is taking positive steps to get folks informed and involved. Just like our flying, our knowledge of our union and it's parts is always bettered by continual learning; I'd definitely be there tonight if I wasn't home on off days, hanging with the kid.
One doesn't have to see eye-to-eye with the MEC to be an active, educated union member. I serve on a committee here and I've got beef with some of the views of the current MEC (including a few with your committee chair). Just because I serve alongside them doesn't mean I have to conform to their every belief (the same, of course, applies to you too).
I can't ignore a visible disconnect between the pilot group and their elected leaders; it's there and isn't being addressed appropriately. I've tried to bring it to the MEC's attention from my position, but am left doing the "vanilla" duties of my job. So are these members that feel it's time to step up and get involved justified? Absolutely.
I, for one, picked up on something a couple of weeks ago that's left me more than a tad irritated. Apparently the company wanted to take on 10 aircraft in a hurry and asked the MEC for a few consessions (staffing, reserves, time withheld) for a time period in order to allow them to do so. Have you been informed of this? Were you allowed to provide your two cents into it? No- it was swept under the rug. Wouldn't this have been a great opportunity to gain something in return? I sure think so.
