I agree with Al Czervik. The retirement numbers alone are shockingly high and would negate a furlough requirement. Hopefuly worse case is the legacies would just stop growing and let the retirements cover any need for letting go of pilots.

As for increasing the retirement age, that's a several year long process in which the the NPRM opens up the rule making processes, it takes inputs from many various groups, studies it, then puts it out and eventually voted to pass. That process hasn't even started for raising Age 65. So for the time being, and I'd say at minimum at least 5 years from now, there is no age increase coming.

Based on numbers alone, I'm willing to give up 5 yrs seniority for one of the big 3 to start over at the bottom. Though I will say 32 now and turn 33 this year. Most junior upgrade 9/11 and I'm 2/12. Even then, AA/DL/UA offers an untouchable opportunity for anyone under 35 who is looking at a 30 or 30+ yr career remaining especially in a NYC base. Your mileage may vary.

United is the weakest international carrier in my opinion. They're just barely squeezing a profit out of INTL in the best market conditions in a long, long time. You may be right and UAL guys may be furlough proof but they don't give me a warm fuzzy. YMMV.
Yeah, but other than all those when would they furlough. 😁

I would never leave the house if I worried about all that.

Just to put things on a timeline:

Hawaiian began mediation in January 2016 and reached a TA in February 2017...13 months.

Spirit began mediation in September 2016. 13 months would put us at October 2017.

I'm just stating these facts for reference. If the Spirit pilots aren't pi$$ed already, they will have no excuses come October of this year.

Wasn't our contract amendable on Aug 1, 2015? We are way past the time to be ****ed.

I realize you're talking about only mediation but you make it sound like we've only been at this 1 year. That's not the case. I don't recall when Hawaiian contract was amendable.

Any chance that will help us with the mediator?

Doubt it... Every email we get from the NC says we're making progress.

Gotta love how Fornaro seems to point to mediation as the reason we are progressing slowly as if things were speeding right along before then....

An avg of about 1 easy section per month since the contract became amendable. That's not counting any negotiating prior to Aug 1, 2015. Call it what you want, but progress doesn't come to mind.

Nearly impossible to get anything done when you negotiate 3-days a month.

I believe March has a lone week and two dates in April
