It doesn't really matter what someone's personal financial situation is. This is a union. Those that are either lucky or responsible enough to not have overextended themselves should not be the only ones responsible for holding the line. Got medical bills? Couldn't be more than a few thousand dollars on any of our health plans so that's not a good argument. I don't care if you have six ex wives and $100k in credit card debt. It's a union. We don't act autonomous, we act unified.
Do guys exist that are just getting as much credit as possible to pay for a bigger boat, sure. But I don't know everyone's situation and more importantly I am not paying their bills. Maybe remind them what they could be making if we get a new contract, but do it politely and not on a public forum.

Well said, at the same time we shouldn't single out our union brothers because a loud few don't agree with how they're legaling behaving under our union contract. I wish our workers unions had more strength in this country. Unfortunately our hands are tied by the power of the government who is controlled by corporations. I am always confused why 95% of union pilots are so far right wing. We are labor workers. Not to sound too crazy left but you all should check out Micheal Moore's "Who to Invade Next" if you want an example of how weak our labor unions are compared to Europe.

Can't go calling guys out when they've done nothing actually wrong. Where's the line? Can a guy move trips and pick up 5 extra hours so he or she has a better line?? Are we talking about the DFW Captain that pulls 150 credit every month? We have a contract and if they stay within the lines you can't be judge, jury and public executioner. Do I agree with guys do 150 a month. Hell no. The problem is that's another Captain we could upgrade. We have a group that doesn't see the big picture, only the next pay check. $$$$$
Fella, the problem is most of these guys are not staying in the lines of the CBA! Direct emails to crew scheduling..you bet! Schedulers calling the special ones..you bet! Getting a call for a JRM OR MUP, then working out some special deal..you bet! Time to knock it off! Fly the CBA!
BILLION dollar deal isn't going to be gift wrapped and handed over by Bendo! Forget about it!

Strength for the people, the thing is everyone has their one sided opinions and beliefs so concrete in their head that they don't bother to see what the other side has to say. I'm assuming you've probably never seen his work because you already know you disagree with him. I'm not saying if there is a right or wrong side but if a person believes so strongly about something they shouldn't be afraid to see another opinion.

We all remember those who would abuse their 5 JRMs a year, cut deals with schedulers with trips to vacation homes in Bimini etc. So the union started to crack down on the company over these people, and it pretty much stopped. Pretty much...
Do you think that these people saw the error of their ways and now see the light? Nope, they are the same greedy pigs of before that will do whatever is necessary to make that coin.
And yes, we have people emailing the crew scheduling supervisor to put themselves on their own private SA list, we have pilots calling to solicit themselves for open time, outside of JRM, and they are getting trips. Now the union is forced to take these cases to NCC hearing to sort it out.
I do not even blame the company, they need to cover flights, the onus is on the pilot to not do this crap in the first place, but we have those who do it.
As far as the 5 JRMs...yes, its contractually compliant. I would only say that a lot of those rules and provisions in our contract are "peace time" provisions vs "war time" provisions.
Yes, we can give up our seat in the back and take the JS for a revenue passenger. Yes, we can taxi on 1 engine until necessary. Yes we can make a best effort to get to the airport inside of 3 hours to help out. Yes we can volunteer to do an engine run, call for paperwork, believe the 'every minute matter'....all peace time provisions. We are not at this point any longer.
Its been way overdue to turn the eagle head to the arrows and away from the olive branch.
