Any chance this will impact contract negotiations?

As long as they can hire and retain pilots, no. In fact, further delaying the contract is likely in that case. Our industry trailing contract is facilitating their rapid growth and performance.

I’d be curious to know if Sunny has hit the panic button, being that very few qualified pilots are willing to upgrade.

I would like to think so, but I doubt it. The management types tend to not hit the panic button on these kinds of things until it's really far gone. They don't have the same perspective as the line pilots, instructors, etc.

If it gets ugly(ier), they will probably try some kind of incentive/forced upgrade. Incentivizing upgrades and hiring with good pay is an idea. Just throwing that out there.

It was talking about Sun Country's better than expected 2nd quarter earnings and that the recovery is coming quicker than expected.

Any news on contract negotiations for pay?

I also heard rumors on sun country becoming baseless?

I heard about the 2 year captain upgrade, would they use prior 121 PIC time towards that?

No specific news on pay.

Never heard anything about being baseless - in fact, heard straight from Jude they want to remain MSP based and expand here.

Captain upgrades are at closer to 1.5 years than 2, however the company still has limits such as X hours in 737, X hours at Sun Country, and yes, prior 121 time counts towards the 1000 hr requirement.

I think the rumor about baseless came about because of brainstorming ideas for commuters. One idea that has been rumored to have been discussed is to have about 70-80% of flights leave MSP and then 20-30% be in outstations giving the company room to expand outside of MSP and then just have schedules where pilots can commute to their trips positive space. It would also give the company a way to attract pilots with a better way to treat commuters. I heard this out on the line somewhere, obviously a rumor. So take it for what it's worth. It sounds like a good idea.

MSP is at the point where any growth to the operation isn’t sustainable anymore unless there are additional bases or “satellite” bases. Trying to run 90+ flights a day on a 6-7 gate operation isn’t feasible. MAC has no plans to expand HHH anytime soon either. With Allegiant coming to town that’s one less gate that’s going to be available as well. PHX LAX or RSW would make the most sense given the whole “leisure” market Sunny goes after

I agree, management can't wrap their arms around the current MSP operation, how are they going to manage any further growth at MSP? They can't even do a gate change on the fly. I think PHX and RSW make sense with not only leisure travel, but the snowbird travel between theses cities. LAX makes less sense and is probably a little more expensive and competitive, so LA seems like a stretch IMHO. I guess that's why we leave it to the genius of Jude and Greg M.
