Midwest expansion. Planes and pilots to compete with the majors. The CEO said we need to grow to compete or we are done. It's easier to buy the competition to grow.

Alaska has plenty of 737s on order. They're also in the midst of trying to reconcile two pilot groups. Throw in a third? Not a wise course of action.

With VX's Airbuses, it actually might make more sense now for AS to grab B6.

But Sun Country? Highly unlikely, especially since they haven't fully digested VX yet.

It was also highly unlikely that they would ever buy Virgin America. And frankly, whether it make sense or not, I can't imagine Alaska can actually afford JetBlue at this point.

Well, neither can I. Until AS digests VX, an SY merger is the figment of SY pilot's imaginations.

Interestingly enough, the recent version of this rumor I heard came from an Alaska pilot. I agree though, that it's probably just wishful thinking on a few peoples parts. It's such an old and longstanding rumor that it's very difficult to believe.

Last week in ground school Zarir said he went to Seattle to meet with Boeing. He said they are considering adding another fleet type because 737s are hard to come by. I'm guessing that's the reason for the rumor or maybe this was a smoke screen for something else.

Sun Country has an almost insignificant fraction of 737NGs compared to Asian carriers, Ryanair, Flydubai, and US major airlines. It's doubtful they are looking at another larger fleet type or a manufacturer outside of Boeing.

There is a new 737 rolling off the assembly line every 22 hours in Renton. There isn't exactly a shortage of aircraft. Now, there may be a shortage of aircraft at the price that SCA wants to pay, which is a function of free market.
What I don't understand is that they went to Boeing to tell them 'we are going to buy other airplanes because we can't buy yours.' Really?

"Welcome to Chevy Fleet Services, how can I help you?"
"I just wanted to stop in and say that I want a couple of more trucks for my fleet, but can't find any available, so I'm going to go to Ford instead."
"So- um- why are you here?"
"I just wanted to let you know."
"Thanks. Now please stop wasting our time."
