Why would that cause you to leave? The only way they can hire Captains off the street is if you (or other FOs) don't meet the qualifications to upgrade. Mock bids for a new base?? My oh my have times changed or so it seems at least.
I can say one thing for a fact because it happened to me. When I was a J41 capt they told us they would NOT be shutting down the RIC J41 base and that they would incorporate RIC crews into the STL flying, however it'd "behoove" us to bid STL. Needless to say no one bid for STL and in less than 12 hours we all had displacement notices.
