Only 74 XRs were produced. Last was delivered in May 2006. All were owned by Continental (for Continental Express) and are now owned by United. We were supposed to get 72, but only got the first batch of 36 because we could not staff the rest. Commutair got the other 36. Those planes were specifically designed for Continental and United likes the performance figures, so they will be part of the final 100 50 seaters.
UAL gave Commutair the preferred interview to help them staff and it has not. American and Delta have thrown down the gauntlet. UAL will match it or its regional affiliates will struggle to hire.

My figures came from a website that lists all the 145s ever produced. It may be off, but it doesn't change my central point. The XR was made for Continental, United owns them all, and every indication is these are the 50 seaters that will be flying in the end.

UAL claims to have 10k applications on file. The CPP isn't to staff United though... just to keep a portion of their UAX feed staffed.
United has been very vocal about only having 100 50 seats by some point in 2018. Who knows what that means for us. It's a good sign that we have the 36 XRs... yet, they have invested in expressjet and commutair with the CPP program, and not us. FO said on the last call in that a CPP allegedly has been negotiated and penned and is just waiting munoz's signature awaiting his return. I would like to think that is true, but could easily be a load of BS. Even if it is true, the CPP hasn't been the panacea to the hiring issues at xjet and commutair that it was totouted to be, so I am doubtful United is in any hurry to sign another CPP.
Now with the AAG companies having the $50+k pay and it will be interesting to see if their staffing issues will subside. I'm guessing it will help a lot. If so, they will be ready to take back that LGA flying in house when the contract is up.
Bottom line, I'm a pretty senior FO, and upgrade keeps looking farther away. I'm going to hang out through the end of the year and enjoy having the holidays off for once. If there isn't a plan for TSA's future by the new year, it will be time for me to pursue other options.

However you look at it, if they move more flying to mainline, or if they decided to go the American path with flows, or something in between, there are going to be plenty of good opportunities for everyone.
We will see if the AA pot has been sweetened to the point that FOs start jumping to AA carriers with the flow and bonus. If that happens, UA's hand will be forced.
Its all about the market. What UAL wants to do, and what they are forced to do by market forces are two very different things.

Keep in mind, those 10,000 guys have apps in everywhere else. Its the same 10,000 everywhere. I had a senior UAL guy tell me they are very concerned about having enough tier 1 applicants after 2018 so we will see.

I'm not sure if UA has openly said they value the agreements like the CPP. But I know internally that they really do not want to do anything like it. Culturally, they have been against any kind of agreement whether it be flow or preferential interviews that takes control out of their HR department. Delta has been the same way but has bent slightly for their sole WO regional carrier. The real question is whether Delta and UA can weather the storm with their regionals' staffing with only a guaranteed interview or if they will need to actually promise a flow. Delta has so far been successful with only an interview and more money. But UA is not in a position to do high first year bonuses because they own none of their feed. Also it should be of note that AA is essentially increasing or keeping their regional feed level while UA and Delta are taking back some of the regional feed in house.

May be old news, but since I've left TSA heard our favorite Jumpseat denying pilot was hired at a Legacy (AA?). If this is true someone needs to give them a heads up of the disaster they have on their hands lol.
