EXTW,

Could you give me the "Cliff Notes" version of the lawsuit?

My understanding was the TWA pilots sued ALPA because they felt ALPA did not comply with ALPA's duty to fairly represent the TWA pilots during the merger with AMR. The lack of fair representation resulted in a one-sided SLI (favoring the American pilots).

The damage portion of the trial will determine what the collective financial damages the TWA pilot group suffered because of ALPA's willful misconduct.

Please correct my misunderstanding(s).

A jury found for the plaintiffs.

Meh. I watched the OJ verdict too.

It's a long read, but here's all the details: TWA Pilots Lawsuit

The conclusion is on page 70.

Could be you tomorrow. All of us TWA guys would rather have just had our (your) union represent us at the time.

So, if I am at another ALPA carrier now, can I just write myself a check?

Wasatch,

You have the basics, but there was much more involved. Try to get a copy of the Lee Seeham report referred to above. It is an eye opener.

The same douche bag that represents usair east pilots, amazing how these guys make their money talking out of both sides of their mouths. Congratulations to all TWA folks, you deserve it, and I hope alpa pays thru the nose. Maybe this will keep them from screwing the airtran guys like they did twa/awa.

This is the findings of an expert not the actual complaint.

Try this for the complaint. http://www.twapilots.com/complaint.htm

The AirTran guys need to watch ALPA like a hawk.
They are very vulnerable to Herndon cutting a deal with SWAPA.
Exact same motivation exists that drove Woerth in the TWA case -- the hope that someday the larger group might join ALPA.

Anyone who wants to join ALPA (especially now), needs their head examined.

As a long time ALPA volunteer and committee chairman at my previous airline, I can say without a doubt that ALPA National is incredibly frakked up. I'm glad that the TWA pilots have been able to get a verdict in their favor. Hopefully any damages awarded will hold up on appeal and major, sweeping changes are made in Herndon.

I served the pilot group at my former airline proudly at the local MEC level for many years, but anytime I had to do something with National and saw how the political game was played in Herndon, especially at the last BOD in FLL last year, I was ashamed and embarassed to be a part of that umbrella "Association". Unfortunately for the entire profession, the politics in Herndon does every pilot across the US and Canada represented by ALPA a major disservice.
