They called me on reserve for a trip the next day that would go into my FDO. I asked if there was anyone else that could do it. They said no. When I checked there were about 4 short calls that would have worked, so I called back saying there were other people that could do it. They said that they won't take anyone off short call to keep my FDO. Anyone know if that's legal per the contract and point me in the right direction?

Yes it's legal. Except for a few specific scenarios where the company has to choose one type of reserve over another (not applicable to your example), the company has complete discretion on whether an assignment shall be made to LSR, SC or FSB reserve if all three types are legal to receive it.
See 20-K-3-a and 20-I-6.

I would not bet on any reserve improvements happening anytime soon... it has never been a priority at UAL/CAL. That 16% pay raise was the best decision this pilot group has made in a very long time.

If right to work and NAI are successful, these may be the highest we'll ever see. A couple more annual bumps remaining then it could over.

My apologies for being so dark. I just saw "Manchester by the Sea." I'll refrain from further posting until tomorrow after I've watched "Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants."

Think of short call as essentially the same as being assigned a trip. They're not pulling someone off it if they can find anyone else to cover a trip. This includes paying someone premium in order to crew it. They treat us short call folks like we are gold. Very reluctant to pull us off it unless they have no other choice.
Unfortunately that means they often won't allow us to go unreachable for a brief period (i.e. to commute home) even if we are no longer "useable" to be assigned a trip in that window. 🙄
But that's another thread...
