Yes, if you look at wide bodies. 14 777-300's for the entire 747 fleet. And no, there is really no way you can increase the utilization of a new plane that much to match the larger 747 fleet.

Given the number of 747's I always see parked on the east side of SFO, 14 seems to be plenty.

As long as we're being sticklers for history, don't forget PanAm A320 orders that predated NWA.

Leisure Airlines, a charter Airline out of North Carolina I think , flew the first A320 in the United States..... few months before NWA sometime early 88

Pan am only flew 310/300s that DL inherited and flew for couple years in 91

Pan am never flew 320s

Has the 777 taken some of this NB block? LAX777 is domestic only category now apparently, at least for April anyway.

LAX777 flew its last LAX-LHR about a week ago - it's now 787. I don't think that's going to work because there were a lot of F passengers on that route. I'm not sure those passengers are going to be happy with C on that flight. F, C and cargo were making that route profitable (plenty of open seats in Y). The 787 doesn't have F and hauls less cargo.

As for LAX777 lines for April, the only destinations are HNL, DEN, SFO, and ORD. And the DEN flights are to/from HNL. I was expecting to see some transcons (LAX-EWR, LAX-IAD).

So no, LAX777 isn't taking a bunch of domestic NB flying in April.

Pan Am never ordered or operated 320's.

Pan Am ordered, but never operated A320s.

Here's an old article from the NYT about the original NWA order that mentions the previous Pan Am order:

Are all the current A319/A320s on the line the original aircraft from before the merger?
The new United hasn't purchased/leased any Airbus aircraft?
