If that’s true, should they be surprised by that? They don’t have the background and experience to do well without a lot of extra time and help.

They are very book smart. I have observed 1 of these and it was a disaster. Talked to a lot of instructors about the other few. Had been online for 4 months and had no clue about things like energy management and landing. Very nice and great with box, but it's a really bad idea.

Ran into one a month ago on my commute. He was just about done with consolidation and couldn’t get over talking about how big the airbus was and how much more difficult it was than he had imagined going into it. This just makes my blood boil when we have thousands of guys with heaps of jet experience out there that can’t get a call.
No need for this type of hiring currently and for gods sake, start hiring guys that actually have flying experience and not just the ones who've joined some random four letter abbreviated Pilot Organization and/or did community service work for lepers on Molokai.
