Default AV days and picking up another trip

I have a trip ending on Wed night. I start another 2 day trip on Thursday morning. It's 99% certainty that the trip ending on WED night is going to get in late enough to disrupt the minimum 12+45 requirement from release time to show. I currently have 12+35 scheduled. (The flight only needs to be 10 mins late to affect the next trip, and it'll be at least 30 mins - 1 hour late based on constant GDP's going into LAX).

So, when does scheduling figure out that i'm not legal for next trip? I do not think they will delay the start of a new trip until i'm legal. Therefore, when will they CNX my flying portion and put me on AV days? I know the contract states that they can assign me something on AV days, but it has to be done by 1500 the day before. It will be the evening of the day before, so they can't.

I don't think i fall under the rule where they have 2 hours to assign me another trip, since i won't have reported for the next day's trip; correct?

Lastly, I want to be able to pick up a trip over the AV days, and double dip. Is there any gotchas? Don't know if i should tell the scheduler that i'm illegal for next trip, upon landing. If there is another trip open, that I'm legal for, they shouldn't be able to assign it to me since it's after 1500.

Sounds like you won't lose your flying until after 1300, so . . .

20-F-1-a-(3) If the loss of his flying occurs after 1300 on the day prior to the scheduled Departure of the Trip lost, require him to be telephone available for a period not to exceed four (4) hours for a potential flight assignment. Such four (4) hour telephone availability period shall occur after an Off-Duty Period of at least ten hours and forty-five minutes (10:45) (or less, with Pilot concurrence) and shall start no earlier than four (4) hours prior to the scheduled Departure time of the Trip lost and shall end no later than the scheduled release time of the Trip lost.

Not sure if you get AV days, but if you do make sure that you tell them to remove the AV days from your schedule before you pick something. If you tell them you want to pick up a trip on your AV days it is like a regular pick up and no extra money.

I have done it a couple times. I call and have them remove them, then pick something up on CCS. That way there is no confusion.

And don't assume you will be paid right, which should go without saying.

I knew there was a catch! So I know to look at my Master Schedule to see if AV days are there. Now I have to make sure AV days have been removed, take a snapshot, and then pick up a trip. So when the AV days are removed, then it's a confirmed way the scheduler has released you from the phone standby of 4 hours. Here's the issue, if the scheduler knows you are picking up a trip on the AV days, why can't he just assign it to you and screw you out of the extra pay?

As for the phone standby of 4 hours; I saw GOCATS67 (above) show the requirements of when the 4 hours occurs. But what are the limitations of the flying they can assign you? Can you only be assigned a trip that has a show or a departure time within the 4 hours?

PDR HOTLINE if it occurs.

That said, 1245 is scheduled min. 1045 actual. And many other things...

They don't know that. I don't tell them. I just ask them to remove the days, say thank you and hang up. Then go pick up a trip on the computer. That said, I have tried to get them to remove them early and they have said no. If they have you on 4 hour phone availability, I doubt they would release you. Rich man's reserve.

What he said... I've had this exact same situation happen to me and it didn't turn out like I thought it would. You'll get your min rest and have to fly your original trip because it was scheduled with at least 12:45. Don't expect a double dip.

And, they can also combine the trips giving you a hotel at base for the layover. Then you get 9 behind the door and 10 hours free from duty.
