I put a piece in for mandatory add pay for acceptance of potential duty day extensions: global or non, regardless of legs per day.

I think an issue that could come up is people continuing when they shouldn't and not doing an honest self assessment just to get the extra pay.

I can see that as a valid concern. It should be equally as valid on the global fleet as on the domestic. I assume there has been some history behind the contract's applicable LOA's, etc. it seems if I think it's safe to extend, then I should be compensated. I'd love an explanation from a good historian.

I go back and forth on this topic. INTL it's a formality to extend. How do you predict fatigue on a 15hr flight where you get 7hrs in the bunk? I can either get 7 good hours of sleep or toss and turn for 7 hours and be exhausted. So giving 5 hrs of pay to INTL pilots encourages them to go max FARs.

However on the domestic side I think it can breed unsafe conditions. You show me a pilot who won't extend for 5 hrs of pay. I don't think that pilot exists.

With that said having special carveouts for certain pilots over the same rules is BS. This is why I go back and forth.

People already have other motivations to continue when they shouldn't...might as well get paid.

Did mine. I've got a new response to the endless complaining, "Did you take the survey?"

How did the OP surmise a 25% participation rate? I don't doubt it, just wondering where the figure came from.

I think one of the ALPA emails said only 1/4 of the pilot group had done it.

Wow. I got crucified on here a few weeks ago for not reading the entire Contract Comparison Guide (included in the survey) in detail - it would take longer than 10 mins just to skim the Guide.
