rp2pilot,

I'm going have my squeeze read this post. She's got Cali on the brain, but I don't have it in my accounts.

Default United is starting new hire training

I received an email yesterday telling me to expect late Nov training date (I received CJO in Mar). However, like many others waiting in the pool that were given 6 different versions of when to expect training, I have been hired by a different company and will not be flying United. Very unimpressed that a multi-billion dollar company screwed up their planning this badly.

Good luck to all of you about to get hired and/or start training with United!

Hey if this is the biggest disappointment that an airline management hands you during your aviation career then consider yourself fortunate!

Keep in mind, that the only reason why the hiring plan seems to have changed is because of the possible purchase of additional airframes. We will not staff heavy for positions that do not exist. I don't know your background, but this is how the airline industry works. If we have a period where airframes have to be parked, jobs will be lost and furloughs will happen.

Im sorry did United give you a class date and cancel it? Or did they say congrats well call you with a class date? I had to wait 2.5 months for my class at the beginning of all this hiring. Was that a failure too? 9 months just doesn't seem like a long wait for me especially knowing the history of the airline industry.

Good luck in your career and remember you are not entitled to anything. The quicker you realize that the quicker you will no longer be disappointed about your career choice.

Good you had options. I believe it's only happened once this hiring round, but it wasn't that long ago where the situation was the opposite.

UAL was offering classes ASAP, and DAL had a training back up and wait time.

When this hiring surge is over, you would have more seniority at UA than whatever company you're at now. They didn't "screw up" their planning as bad as people think, but your frustration is understandable.

There will always be a crop of applicants wanting to make the jump to UA for WB reasons, so they don't really have the same considerations of needing to get ahead of the hiring curve relative to others. In fact I just talked to an Alaska Capt who is applying for that very reason.

Good luck though! And where did you end up?
