I understand Pan Am also used to do this. Your recurrent month was spent on reserve. Junior guys were not stuck on reserve for years. Everybody took their turn in the barrel. Which was good for building and reinforcing group identity among the membership. Shared experiences, and that stuff.
But I forgot, reserve is always a choice, isn't it. |

I still like one of AMR's old reserve rules. Every pilot was on reserve at least 1 month a year. Everybody cared about reserve rules then. And the bottom guys were not on reserve every month, or even the majority of months.

I was told this also. The senior guys bid reserve in December and never worked. Apparently most people liked it; 51% at least. The senior guys never lost touch with the other end of the list and junior folks got a break.
But I forgot, reserve is always a choice, isn't it. |

Well, one thing is for certain with the statement above, your ALPA brotherhood would rather send you packing than respectfully disagree with you regarding a reserve rule change. So much for unity... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Amazing concept.. allowing everyone to experience what 'current' reserve rules are like, maybe once a year.
Actually always thought this wouldn't be a bad thing, and know that some airlines either still do it, or use to. The idea of doing in on your Training month is actually brilliant. Would allow everyone to have different months during the course of their careers. Maybe give them 13 days off too, plus 74 hrs of pay.. Alas, it will never happen because the senior pilots of Legacy United will never allow such a thing to happen, even if it were to be shown to build unity within the ranks. Just like we will never see major changes to the sick leave section while one group of pilots has tons of sick time in their banks. Damn the pilots below! Motch |

Motch I'm relatively senior (4835) and I think I'm in the very slim minority, but I would be game for a system where if there were no movement in some manor to be determined for a long period, say like 2 to 5 years, then reserve would rotate amongst all pilots. Never happen, but heh . . . makes for entertaining angry retorts :D It's the same thing with a national seniority list. It'd be great a decade after implementation, but the senior guys would have to do it out of altruism at first and no way in h3ll that's gonna happen. Back on topic: what exactly did we give on the FRMS side? I'm not being snarky, I honestly don't know. |
