they’ll release the class dates >30 days out... no reason why they won’t continue to run them weekly or every other week for the foreseeable future. Most of the retraining of displaced COVID related pilots is scheduled to be completed in the narrow body fleets in May/June... so the training center will be wide open for new hires this summer.
Nice thanks! I have my CJO just waiting on a date, think I was one of the first ones to interview so hopefully not too much longer |

They'd call, introduce themselves, then start making small talk while you wondered what they were going to say. Eventually, they'd ask if you were going to take your family out to dinner tonight to celebrate. |

I was doing a live check IAH-AEX, we just pulled into the gate, shut down the plane and I told the crew I was going up top to list for the jumpseat. I turned my phone on it ringed and my life changed! I knew the CA fairly well. He asked who was that and I told him that it was my ticket to UA. Needless to say they passed their line check. |

Never felt the cold on that walk around. |

They're running 3 classes a month in May and Jun. Based on those start dates I'm predicting Jul 6, 13 and 20 and Aug 10, 17 and 24. Hope so, good luck!

I was in upgrade school at my regional and got the call while on the bus to the hotel.
Manly tears shed. |

So once hired how is the training environment? Do people wash out? Is it a positive environment to help each other out? Is it an aqp program? Are the 737 and bus hard to learn coming from a regional jet? Any tips and advice to possible new hires?

UAL was my sixth airline. There is no comparison to any of the others. You'll feel welcomed and will be treated like an adult.
It is possible to wash out but very rare. One story was a new-hire who wouldn't stay off his cell phone in the sim even after being told several times. The screening process does a pretty good job of ensuring that new-hires are trainable and the training program is designed to give you the help you need to succeed. Very much so. Yes, AQP. I think the hardest course, that a new-hire can get, is the 756 and that only because there are so many variants to learn; 757-200, 757-300, 767-300, and 767-400. Several regional-only pilots in my class took 756, though, and none had any trouble. Just be professional. Study. Enjoy the experience. |
I agree with everything written here. Perfect description

What’s the bidding protocol in new hire class these days? Day one they give you the availability and day 2 you bid? Or all on day one?

How hard is the 737 to learn coming from a regional aircraft?
Also what are the pros and cons of being based out west compared to the East coast? I’ve experienced EWR and it was pretty cool but the crash pad/city was not so great. I remember pre pandemic getting to SFO was like getting to the gates of heaven only to have a past full of sin and gin. Heck EWR was pretty much the same too. |

So here's the most important question (;)) what's the dress code these days? Still a suit on day one and business casual for the rest of training? I've been out of 121 for 10 years, and it's been 20 years since my last "first day". Or will that all come in a yet to be received email? Thanks! |

Thank you!
Also, I haven't been given any access to a Basic Indoc site. |

Perfect thank you

You take your id photo on day one so people started wearing suits. You can get your id photo redone anytime you are back at the training center. It is business casual until you get your wings at the end of week two.
