word is the next few classes will be slightly smaller to help alleviate the training back log.

Do students get a listing of what’s in the drop before class start, or on the day of BI?

Any idea how long, typically?

I can’t remember, think within 2 weeks of class.
Doesn’t say how many slots just which aircraft and bases to be offered I believe

If I remember correctly it’s Thursday or Friday before Indoc starts ( usually on Tuesdays)

GoCats67 03-16-2022 08:27 AM

Vacancy bid closed and had 250 unfilled assignments. So, classes next week and beyond will have these potential assignments. (all other unfilled from the Dec bid will expire this week)

DCA 320 FO 21 unfilled
DCA 737 FO 19 unfilled

EWR 320 FO 30 unfilled
EWR 737 FO 48 unfilled
EWR 756 FO 10 unfilled

LAX 320 FO 19 unfilled
LAX 737 FO 26 unfilled
LAX 756 FO 5 unfilled

SFO 320 FO 29 unfilled
SFO 737 FO 32 unfilled
SFO 756 FO 11 unfilled

At the current pace of hiring these will last just over a month, so if they are going to continue to hire at any pace close to what they have been we will need another bid posted in 4 or so weeks.

The new hire indoc site that they send out to the new hires says to check the Friday before class for the new drop.

I will add that it is not always what will be offered. This is the drop info they gave for the 3/15 class and you can compare it to the above options that they gave in class.

Bidding Options for the 03.15.2022 Class:
DCA 737

EWR 737

LAX 737

SFO 737

DCA 320

EWR 320

LAX 320

SFO 320

DCA 756

EWR 756

SFO 756

I'm signed up for an April class and on standby for an earlier date. Is it common for people to slip into earlier indoc classes, or is it pretty slim pickings these days?

Did they give you an option to opt into an earlier class date when you selected your current class date?

BlueScholar 03-17-2022 07:25 AM

No I didn’t see that option, but I emailed the new-new hire HR person and she said she’d keep me in mind. I’m just curious if historically 1% of the slots get turned in with 100 people trying to move up or of the odds are a little better than that.

desertdweller 03-17-2022 10:28 AM

You'll get an email that allows you to opt in. It will go quickly.

Emailing the HR person won't do much. If anything. If they decide to open slots in previous classes they'll send out and email to everybody with a link to click on, and it's first come first serve.
In my experience, I opened that link about 15 minutes after is was sent out and all the slots (a dozen) were already taken.

it was 20 bus, 28 73, and 6 75s.

the last 9 people were all 320s, for what that’s worth.

The United half wingers page on FB has been posting the drops and order of selection quite reliably FWIW.

New Hires

I apologize if this question has been asked before, but what are the typical creditials/hours that people are getting hired with currently?

It's legit all over the place. Mil, regional, corporate. Age mid-20s to 60. There's absolutely no "typical" about the hiring.

airbusboeing888 03-28-2022 01:16 PM

Hello! Has anyone here who attended WAI 2022 recently got a Hogan invite?

Is the 100 hours in 12 months a hard limit or preferred?

Has anyone that interviewed March 3-4 or so been offered a class date yet? I don't subscribe to FB so not plugged in there. I got the CJO email with a "we'll be in touch soon"........
I know there is a slow down to catch up on some training backlog, but its been radio silent since the CJO email.

Thanks in advance.

So I feel like futilely trying to predict the future. I highly desire IAH out of indoc but it looks like those have dried up. In order for them to become available again (potentially) does a vacancy bid need to close out in the weeks before your indoc class? Does a July indoc have any chance of this happening? Yes I realize there’s no realistic way to figure this out. I’m just bored and curious.

O.K. this is a good news bad news story.

The last vacancy bid was awarded on Mar 15th and had no "unfilled" assignements in IAH. That means that the company cannot give IAH as an initial assignment at the moment.

Unfilled vacancies expire after 92 days, all of the unfilled vacancies on the recent vacancy bid will expire on June 16th. So, before a July indoc class receives any assignments we will need to have another vacancy bid. That means there is a chance that you could see unfilled assignments in IAH again. Keep in mind that everybody that starts indoc before the next vacancy bid will be allowed to bid on those vacancies, so anybody ahead of you will get a shot at IAH before it goes "unfilled." IAH did go unfilled on the vacancy that closed in December, so it is not as crazy as it once was to think it is possible.

I would guess that we will likely not get any unfilled IAH assignments on the next bid, as I am betting it will be another small bid to keep the new hire flow going over the summer. With that said, your ability to get a lateral to IAH very quickly is better now than it has been in years and years. I would guess that we will be seeing large vacancy bids in the late summer and fall and the fast movement across the system will resume, including the ability to get to whatever domicile you want.

So, while I would be a little surprised if you got IAH as an initial assignment in July, I would be very surprised if you didn't have a lateral awarded to IAH by the time you were done with aircraft training/OE. Then you would just be in line waiting for them to "activate" you into IAH. That could be super fast (needs of the company) or take a few months while they backfill in behind you at whatever domicile you get inititially.

merica1776 03-29-2022 02:32 PM

Thanks. That’s exactly what I was looking for.

What's up with the 1,000 turbine? Is it unheard of to get a callback with less than that? What's a "reasonable" range of turbine time to reasonably expect you might get an interview?

From FB, 3/3 CJO's just got 5/9 class date. I'd expect to hear fairly soon, however, word is they're filling classes not just on date of CJO but also on mixing Mil/121/135/Civ/etc. so take that with the usual skepticism.

I'm 3/8, 3/9 and haven't heard anything yet, which hopefully happens soon, because I have a mortgage due, lol.

Heard no class this week. What's going on over in the FTC to cause this?

They are really backed up doing IOE would be my guess.

Scary stuff. Things are looking pretty good here though. Nice to see.

aviator1998 04-09-2022 01:45 PM

So what’s the consensus, pros/cons for new hires going to the widebodies. If given the choice, does it make more sense to go widebody or narrow body? Thoughts/Opinions?
