“Nearest suitable.” Lots of factors there. Not just DME. As for the F/As and the Brace calls; as the CAPT, I would’ve briefed them to prepare for an evacuation (due to severely damaged engine), which drives them to a checklist that requires the Brace Brace call.

My reference to a raven and "nevermore" was a warning to anyone not wanting to shut down an engine because of a little birdie. Not a good idea. I’m all for PIC emergency authority and using experience, systems knowledge and the situation to assist, but not shutting down an engine when called for can lead to a worse outcome.

(in literature and mythology a raven is often a warning or symbol of bad luck)

"When called for"

Note I specially stated vibration within limits not outside of it....

Why is she taking a video when she should be bracing?

Yeah, I heard also they were near TOD point when it occurred. If so, that would reduce the number of decisions to be made. Without knowing all the details, seemed to turn out fine by me.

Off to Chucks for a few strong Mai-Tai’s.

After a couple back and forths, issue dropped.
Etops alternate is a dispatch item. Nobody says that you must go there. I don't think the Feds will do anything
