Amazing how few grasp that simple concept and simultaneously take on the roles of airline CEO and manufacturer chief engineer.

I remember a time when MX used to refer to the Bus as the 180.....left the gate and turned around with a fault that MX had to fix. The NG has many not desirable characteristics. Again, I fly it per SOP. To ***** constantly about it serves no purpose. Tilt away. I’ll fly my trips in the 737 and not worry too much about why the company should have gotten a different aircraft. All these years and they’ve never called to ask my option on aircraft orders. Lee |

Recommend you stay away from the 737 then.

Some of us don’t want to just languish at less than the best. |

Oh you mean like the 787 that had a 60% dispatch as they learned the airplane?

And some of us realize we have no say in aircraft orders and or access to the deals and cost-benefit analysis that drive our aircraft purchases. If you honestly think our management is stupid enough to randomly purchase aircraft without significant analysis, you probably ought to go to Delta, because United won't last until your retirement. When it comes to operational issues, pilots have a lot of expertise. When it comes to the business side of running an airline... not so much. Yes, from a pilot's perspective the 737-900 ER sucks (haven't flown the Max, but I expect more of the same). Our management obviously thinks it makes sense from a business perspective.

Anyone who bashes the Max needs to get a clue. That thing is hands down better than any of the previous guppy models. It has 2 cup holders, what more could you ask for!:D

I agree. The Max is just a very efficient 900ER with bigger screens. I’ve only flown 2 legs in it, but that was my take. It’s still not a bad place to sit. Yes it isn’t the quietest cockpit, and yes, God forbid, you have to actually flip a switch to bring a generator online, but how difficult is that? The bean counters decided that the max would maximize our profits when considering our operation and the available options at whatever prices that they were able to negotiate. Delta and American each have different bases and cost structures. What works for them doesn’t necessarily mean that it is the best fit for us. If sitting in a 737 is that unbearable or demeaning the guppy haters can just bid around the thing. We have options.

From what I hear, the 73 is a love hate relationship. Hate the plane but love the schedules and layovers. Complaining about the plane is a rite of passage and borderline endearment. If you can smoothly fly and land the thing though, you can fly anything.
