I'm a bit amazed, frankly.

Turning down a job in the big leagues because you might go to Guam for 18-24 months? WITH your family??

To each, their own.

In 1994 I turned down an offer from two of the current majors. We were in negotiations at the new hire table and they just wouldn’t give me a free pony

I remember that too, I was holding out for a pony, but UAL was only offering a unicorn. I think they called it “ESOP” or something like that.

I got to ride that unicorn, then it turned around and stabbed me with it’s unicorn horn right in the posterior.

Nah Hoss;
The horn was still up front. You were DP'ed with the convertible bond and your A plan. ALPA didn't even bother to use KY.

18 month commitment also required for 1st year pilots wanting to be paid at 2nd year rates. I don’t know for certain, but I’d assume the same would be true of the release from seat lock offer the company is currently advertising.
