Looking at this from a junior pilot perspective (without a class yet), I’m guessing that if someone gets a class soon, and the Max pipeline then restarts, there will be a deluge of additional junior pilots starting classes shortly after? Is there available throughput for that theory?

The company seems to think that they have plenty of availability on the 737 side when it starts back up. The big question will be delivery schedule after the max return to service. Good luck. |

Thanks, would you guys say that the Max is a senior FO airplane or something new-hires would be getting in their class drops?

737 is all one category, so if you pick it, you’ll be flying -700, -800, -900, -900ER, Maxxx
I'm going to continue peppering this board with questions... How senior is Houston? I currently live in Destin, FL and the old lady likes it (I do also). There are a few direct options to get to Houston, but not all that many. Wondering if it's feasible to expect it within a couple years or not? |
Ah the old IAH dilemma. Is it possible in the first year, no. In first 5 years probably. The situation you will find yourself in is this. After a year on property in a junior, coastal domicile I can routinely hold 16+ days off and weekends off. I still cannot hold IAH. By the time I am eligible to hold IAH as a bottom of the barrel reserve guy, do I really want to? If you live in IAH, then reserve in base isnt bad. But commuting from Niceville to IAD/EWR and having a sweet schedule to then commute to IAH for a shorter commute only to be super junior isnt a winning combo in my mind. Just my 2 cents.

I feel like this thread was meant for posting CJO, class dates and assignment drops etc. Seems like a lot of questions should go somewhere else.

Obviously you’re a mil dude. If you have a reserve job then you’re anchored. But if you’re retired...QOL may dictate a move. Your first year will not be easy, don’t get caught out of position! Visiting the beach works for us. |

So you and your wife love Destin? Of course you do, who doesn’t? BUT...and you’re not going to want to hear this...working for UA and flying out of VPS will not be easy! For DL pilots sure, but not us. You’re looking at a 2 leg commute to reserve. With the first leg on an RJ! Connecting out of IAH to another hub (as with most hub to hub flts) will also be a stressful process. Flts are routinely full. IAH based, of course, would be ideal and you could score a base trade in your first year, as others have. Question, have you read up about life on reserve at UA? What you’re asking for will be an extended period of time on reserve.

Moving is definitely an option for us, but I'm trying to see how much of an option staying here is also. As almost everyone states, living in your base gives you substantial QOL improvements, always. If only United would open VPS as a base... I might get here in about 15 years. |

Welcome brother. Glad leaving Xjet worked out well for you. I will be in the TK thru 11/7 for fleet training
At the same time it won’t be easy leave my current employment. They were the ones who threw me a life line when employment options seemed dark and have always treated me well. I really assumed this was my last stop and would have been happy with that as well. |
“Later this week United plans to introduce a redesigned and reinvigorated pilot recruiting and development program. We wanted to share this with you first before we announce it publicly.
As you know, with our growth plans and retirements, we need a strong pipeline of the best pilots. Together with your colleagues, Flight Ops, ALPA, HR and our United Express team, we’ve designed a program that offers more entry points, more development opportunities and a quicker and more transparent path to United, which will be industry leading. It’s a program designed to ensure we bring the highest quality talent in the marketplace to United flight decks versus our competitors. You’ll see much more information soon, and many more exciting “announcements to follow later |

So basically CJO to recieving a class date is a guesstimate of 3-4 months and they give you roughly months notice? That sound about right?

12 Jun 19 CJO
5 Nov 19 BI |
12 June CJO
5 Nov BI class date. Same as above |
Little late to post but just to help out those that are wondering.
30 May CJO 29 October BI |
How often do they announce more interview dates? When I checked the site only 1 date was available.

Not sure. But it was the same for me. I think within a few days there were more.

Anyone out there with a CJO that denied a UA pilot a Jumpseat waiting on a class date?
Just curious. |
Flight Operations is pleased to announce that new-hire classes will occur on December 3 and 10, for approximately 40 pilots each.
Here is the current schedule of announced upcoming classes: - October 28/29 - November 4/5 - November 11/12 - December 3 - December 10 |
Rumors of the waiting time in the CJO pool shrinking dramatically! Coupled with plans to hire 100 a month.
If true, then the interview group at UA is going to have to go into overdrive. Check those emails.... |
