10-2 and U. What the contract says.

Not sure if anyone has run into this yet, but seems as if the training center has come to rely on the 10-2 slot as a regular part of pilot training schedules. Just thought folks heading out to Denver should know the game and the rules.
First here's what the contract says:
Next the game . . .
Turns out what the training schedulers are doing is keeping sim sessions open during the day as a backup for when another sim breaks. So IF you are scheduled for 10-2 and IF you find there are sims open, but unused and being held in reserve then MAYBE you might call someone in ALPA or file a PDR. Be warned the sim sessions being held back often just don't appear in the schedule.
Anyways just thought folks should know.
First here's what the contract says:
9-F-5 The training periods in the flight simulator or cockpit procedures trainer, exclusive of briefand debrief, shall be conducted between the hours of 0600 and 2400 local time, which may be extended to 0200 when the scheduled training requirements in a particular Equipment type exceed the capabilities at the particular training center. The Company may only schedule a Pilot for training during the 2400 to 0200 time period without his concurrence if he cannot be scheduled to other available time slots. No evaluations shall be done during this extended training time without the concurrence of the Pilot.

From what I understand the sims are simply quietly kept open and even the instructors can't normally see the open sims until after the schedule for the month is loaded, but the idea is to have backups for an increasing number of sim down time. I understand why the schedulers decided to go this way, but I had a couple 10-2 sessions last year and they are brutal. Now I understand they are scheduling guys for a whole week of such sessions. That seems completely wrong, and hopefully this is going to a Grievance soon.
Speaking of Grievances I also heard there has been an uptick recently after the brief hiatus where everything was cleared out. Guess a call to my reps is in order to get a "what's what".

I understand your point but can’t say from a UPA standpoint that there’s anything illegal using the late sims unless it’s a checking event. That doesn’t include MVs by the way.
If you could show a trend on open sims and also show availability of PIs, then I guess you could try to grieve it. Just not sure under what provision.
Good luck.

I must say I am becoming increasingly tired of the stupidity on the internet. People simply are unable to read the sub-context of my posts, and worse yet as is indicated by your post, and the myriad of posts on my 45 minute thread, pilots won't even stick up for their rights as outlined by the contract. The company "CANNOT" give you a 10-2 sim if they have another sim session open. The contract does not say the company CAN with hold a sim for their benefit.
The company is beginning to put the screws to the pilots, and 20 years ago my mentors taught me how to respond. Today with a third CAL guys and a third new guys, I fear the response from the pilot group will not be unified or appropriate. This is but one example that should be a slam dunk.
We are in contract negotiations, and Kirby is stepping up the pressure. How are YOU responding? Do you know your contract?

What the heck? And if I could use other words I would.
I’m advocating for the pilot group and arming them with facts of which few are aware and you attack me?
Let me ask why?
I’ll take a guess. . . you think I’m giving up secrets that are better left unsaid. Well you’re wrong.

Not too hard to read where you're coming from.
