Anyone ever try to trade a trip, lets say you are flying one on Saturday (march bid month), and wish to trade for the identical trip but it starts on a Friday... (but in the Feb bid month).
Our trip trade system, real time, seniority, nor crew companion will let you do it.
I called trip trade and futures desks. All agree I have no legality issues, but the computer won't let you do it.
They said "ALPA was aware."
They also said that there doesn't appear to be anything in the contract preventing it, but there is a "system limitation." Is that like saying we didn't program the computer right?
Any other opinions on this? Am I wrong?
Scheduler suggested I just try and straight drop my Saturday day trip, but then she said it would be denied due to lack of coverage on Saturday and Sunday. it shouldn't matter as it was a 4 day trip and I would have been working Saturday and Sunday anyway.
I guess if you can straight drop a trip you would then be free to do a straight pick up...

Not contractual, more of a programming issue that has never been rectified.
Your best bet is to put in to drop the March trip (I know, unlikely due to coverage) and advertise the trip. I’ve been amazed at the garbage I’ve advertised that someone actually picked up. Once the trip is gone you can do a straight pickup of the trip you want in the seniority trip trade window or real time window as appropriate.
Drop in one transaction, pickup in a separate transaction in the next trip trading window.

Famous words. Scheduler oh yeah just go ahead and drop it then pick up the new one .... they literally all must laugh when we get off the phone with them after they use this famous quote .
Our trade / swap system is a joke . Senior guys chime in 3.2.1 oh you just don’t know how to use it . 🔪

Copy all.
Seems my point is valid and I was correct.
No contractual limitation or restriction, just a programming issue.
Seems we need to get the company to get the program fixed. Who is the point of contact within ALPA that is responsible for lesioning with the company on issues such as these? computer committee? scheduling committee?
Is there the perfect or right POC for this?
are the ALPA reps aware of this "glitch?"
I think we need a fix and a deadline.
Would a grievance be appropriate?

It has been like this for years. Our union either is ignorant to it or has forgotten why we all got into this business. Flexibility!
You better like the days you are working when the pbs awards come out.
