The point is the 777 is not that loud in flight. Either wear ear plugs, or use something where you can hear the other pilot. |
Used to fly the Bus at Jetblue (brand new 321’s) and now fly our 320’s man what a difference in how loud ours . Esp the 321 , with the engines further back makes it even quieter.

Do the above mentioned fleet types not have a hot mic ICS? I'm moving over from the 175 which has a fairly loud cockpit, so loud that no one really goes topless above FL180. I wear a on ear DC 10-X Pro and one of the nicest things about it the hot mic ICS.

Hot mics are only good for below 180 ops above that use the ptt. PLEASE no one wants to hear gum chewing or nose breathing for hours

In all the corporate flying I did we ALWAYS had hot-mike (well, except for the LR-24/25) and it was far less fatiguing. Yesterday, I commuted to EWR on Southwest in the jumpseat and they almost exclusively (save for a few old crusty deaf guys) use the hot-mike setup. Their audio panels are setup for it and it is so much better than the "one-ear-off" BS. In the photo, the switch I circled limits the audio in the headphones to either RADIO-only, or if in INT position, you hear radio AND hot-mike. Transmit functions aren't affected (meaning, you don't have to constantly switch from INT to RADIO to xmit) You're just creating hypotheticals that just aren't a factor. fb |
