777s ? Is that why

No it’s probably because the level of competition at ORD is higher than SFO or EWR and therefore brings down the RPM. Solution, move the international flying to those bases and protect ORD with the 787, a lower cost airplane.

Just speculation and there are zero indications of parking 777 (A). In fact the rumors of looking for more of them are common.

Reduction in service on 777 from ORD and down-gauging to 756. ALPA message said not to expect follow on bumps due to this...

I’m normally inclined to be cynical, but the tone of the message conveyed to me that Mr. Carlson was thinking of the personal impacts the displacement might have. That might have factored in to the decision.

Getting positive space and the other displacement benefits for a good period of time for those pilots that might look (at least temporarily) for out of base WB options is a pretty good deal vs running a vacancy then the displacement as the clean-up. If that’s the reason, that’s pretty cool.

I could be wrong.

Now this is funny!

Where did it say that?

are you referring to this?

"Also, the likelihood the company ever uses the Secondary or Tertiary Displacement process is slim to none. It is more likely if the company ever needs follow-on displacements, they will just use the Primary process."

I might be mistaken, but to me that doesn't mean there won't be any follow on bumps. -Just stating the means of which they would do it.

The reduction, CSS, Flying Together, emails, social media...
I know some pilots get home and don’t touch the iPad until the next trip, case in point. :D
ORD-HKG is ending. That one was the biggest contributor leading to the displacement.

Well to muddy the waters some more...I’d say 95% of the people being displaced can be line holding Captains in domiciles across the system. This is going to be a mess.

Many pilots on the 777 or 787 could have been NB captains years ago. A 28 hour 3 day where you spend half of the time asleep in the bunks is a sweet deal. Bidding to work more days per month, flying multiple leg, unproductive 4 day trips sounds like a tough pill to swallow. Some may go for captain seats, but my guess is that most are on the 777 because they want to be. Unless you’re just not cut out for international flying, flying NB captain is a bunch more work for not that much more money. This should be interesting to watch.

As you watch the construction going on at ORD, a little insight into how things really get done, past and present. It’s the Chicago way:

I dont get why they bothered publishing a min/max for the displacement. The guys bumped can go anywhere their seniority can hold so those numbers are meaningless.

I thought I saw a note in there that there wont be secondary displacements...but I will have to go back and look. We have a large number of extremely junior Captains in several of the bases (myself included). Even if we dont get bumped out of the seat, only about 10 of those 70 displacements are junior to me. There will definitely be an effect in EWR and IAD and SFO if even a small number of these guys bump into the left seat of NBs.

It will be interesting to see the first few snapshots.

I doubt many of these guys will leave ORD.

Any idea where the planes will be going when the 787 takes the routes?
