It wasnt long ago that the bottom 12 FOs on the 777 in DC were monthly forced into being lineholders. I couldnt hold a reserve line to save my life. So I got to know Guam pretty well.

Reserve sucks.
Reserve sucks even more if you commute.
I hope we see reserve improvements in he next contract.

The SRL gave some people the option to not be on reserve. Thats all I was trying to say. I wasnt senior enough to get a SRL in my BES so it was a moot point.

In SFO I believe it’s has more to do with commuting to reserve more than being on reserve.

At any given time, true, the majority are not on reserve. But over a career, 100% will be on reserve. Literally. Benefits. Everyone.

Anyone that suggests reserve is a choice hasn't been around very long or has but is a petulant self-serving jack wagon.

Are you really trying to draw parallels between a pilot who voluntarily bids into a category that his seniority can barely hold and the carnage that the events of the last month will have on everyone?

Get a grip ya panic monkey, this going to suck for everyone, not just pilots on reserve.

I suppose I have not been around long enough to understand your rationale.

And like Thor said: the current situation is hardly a valid metric for much of anything relating to normal ops.

the point is that things can change and even though you bid a new BES and should have been. Sry solid into above the g line territory - all of the sudden you are not anymore and on reserve.

the current scenario is the extreme but the same could happen with another slow down.

bottom line - sh$& happens and all of a sudden you are in reserve again - and not by choice.

Even if you don't want to bid reserve yourself, good reserve rules make it go more senior and therefore you are competing with less pilots for the good lines. It's no different than making narrowbody aircraft trips better even though you are on a widebody.
