UAL - manpower reduction options

they opened briefly in FT then disappeared. Not sure if they are back in there. Probably decided to proof read the options this time around.
ETA: looks like it’s back in there.

Not what I was hoping for. It looks like bidding reserve is a much better option, especially if you’re on a WB. Even commuting to reserve and buying hotels and meals will net more than this. If there was a 4-5 month SRL that paid 50 hours a month without postponed pay, I’d sign up. Hopefully they don’t get any takers for this deal and they have to improve their proposal. Until then, I better brush up on the reserve section of the contract.

Same here, and I was hoping for more. The 50 hour deal paid about $1,000 less than commuting to reserve and buying hotels and meals. If they don’t improve this deal it looks like I’ll go sit reserve knowing that the odds of me getting used are slim to none on a WB.

My original plan was to keep bidding SRL’s until this fall when a displacement bid sends me to training. Unless this changes, I’ll go platinum on a hotel rewards card buying 18 hotels a month. At 50 hours a month I was willing to take the hit to avoid the hassle, but these deals are not worth even considering. They can just pay me 73 hours not to fly instead of 50.

How many hours will you spend the moment you start packing your bag, commuting to the airport, catching a flight, ubering to your hotel, being less productive because you are spending time in a hotel and not at home, flying trips that actually do pop up, and then doing the whole thing in reverse several times a month? How much is your time worth per hour? $1,000/month seems like a very small price to pay for all that extra time you would gain by bidding an SRL.
I’ve always been a big proponent of letting people do what they want. I’ve never been a fan of the Union telling people what to do. We are adults and people should have the freed to do what makes sense to them, without being chastised for their decisions by others. I would just encourage you to think about the value of your time before choosing to bid reserve over a SRL when you are a commuter (or even if you live in base).
